Why is everyone screaming gil sinks and broken economy?

I see half the players complaining they cant afford gear yet I see no over priced gear

The trend over the last year prices on nearly everything has fallen dramatically

Is it just players who dont spend time farming for gil and have none who are complaining?

Someone please enlighten me on why theres so much talk about gil sinks and broken economy? (not solutions but why people say it)

I for one dont really see a problem...every game has rich and poor. Obviously from the "i cant afford gear" rants....not everyone has a lot of gil so whats the problem?

There are two things in life that human kind (in general) are afraid of:

    1) Fees (AKA Gil Sinks)

    and

    2) Change (making something different)

In this case we have Fees and a change...two things that are more scary than the Cocytus itself!

No over-priced gear? I had a nervous break down on wutai when I saw a level 5 shield for 100k.

I literally shouted "What moron makes a level 5 shield 100K". What new player would have that gil!?

    Yeah, he is a moron
But the bigger moron would be who buy it ^^
The NPC price for that shield is 5500 gil, only a bit over the production cost

those fall in the same category as the 1 fire shard for 999,999,999

thats why the transaction history will be nice as that will set somewhat of a "base" price for item worth

I hope its transaction history and not some kind of AH. If you think about it, was the AH system which lead to the hyperinflation in FFXI (in addition to RMTs). In AH system, the price which is shown for the item, is the last price it was sold, usually people asumed everyone was selling it at that price, and just bid the same value. When there was scarcity people just set a higher price for bid, then someone attempted to buy, which registers a new price and makes most sellers put that new price.

With this system, if some seller is willing to cover the cost of making and item to have his Gil back, and continue his production, he can do it, since buyers will be looking at offered ammounts and price set by each seller. The price will go up, as less people is willing to sacrifice potencial earnings, others will want a prime based on the effort of having high lvl crafts, or acquiring raw materials.

Well that would be a scammer...And once we have a history to see transactions those kinds of sellers will be weeded out or will never make a sale.

You just answered your own question. Up until this next patch, there hasn't BEEN a history of transactions, thats why the economy is broken. Also, I started a new character a few months ago on another server with a higher population than Kashuan, and because they had changed how much gil you earn for leves (its drastically less than it was at launch) the only way I could get any new gear at low levels was to make it. Very little to no low level gear was for sale in any of the wards and when it was it was drastically overpriced. 200k for a pair of level 15 pants is a joke. I don't want to level every crafting job inthe game to 20 just so I can make enough gear for all my combat jobs. Spend five minutes looking at the price of all the low level gear for sale from level 1-20 in uldah wards on your server. Much of the problem with the economy is also due to the complete lack of a lower, middle, and upper class due to no influx of new players. There is only the super rich, and the fewnew players that join or remake characters that start the game flat broke.

Just because someone was trying to sell a shield for 100k doesn't mean that the item in general is over-priced. That could very easily be an isolated case of that particular person trying to sell it for more than it is worth. Anyone with enough patience can go around to the vendors and find a shield any where from level 1-20. Level 20-40 is when it is difficult to find decent quality gear for an appropriate price.

The problem is that one of the main sources of income is leves and not many people use them for leveling as commonly as they used to. People get PL'd to 50 in a few days and expect that they should have all the resources necessary to get endgame gear readily available at their fingertips.

If you don't have to work to get to level 50, why would you want to start earning your keep after you get there?

Even with gil sinks in 1 year when they open v 2.0 all those people who stay now will have such ridiculous amount of money that ps3 players will never catch up. I predict SE will open some new servers for them so they won't have to pay 500k for a lvl 10 item.
