Heavensward Quests

Greetings? i'm a returning player from 2014. I made new char and redoing main story.
So the question - is Heavensward worth getting? Is there any improvement to story/questing/gameplay comparing to ARR?

Absolutely.
The game gets a better story from the end of the 2.0 questline and onwards, specially after 2.3 quests. After 3.0 (HW) it gets better and better.
Gameplay won't change so much (only lvl 60 rotations), most of the changes will come with Stormblood (i don't think you will need the exp for those anyway). The story improves A LOT. Won't say it's perfect, but it is quite good and far better than the ARR storyline.

Most of the opinions ive heard are that the story started getting good somewhere in the 2.x patches, and continued on an upward trajectory through HW. The "filler" stuff seemed less frequent and usually still at least felt a little important. As for improving questing, im not sure what you even mean. Its still go there, do that, bring me those, kill primal, clear dungeon. And for gameplay, the new skills that come between level 50 and 60 tweak or re-write the main rotations for basically every class to some degree. Whether or not thats an improvement depends on your point of view.

One side point though, HW is going to be included in Stormblood when it comes out in about 2 weeks. Since youre already more then 2 years behind, it certainly wouldnt be a bad idea to wait and get the expansion combo so you get more bang for your returner buck. You gotta play through the ARR story(and patches - most of this you likely already did) to get into HW, and getting into SB requires finishing off the HW story(and patches) - so there should be plenty for you to experience.
