Hey all. so I'm close to getting my gear maxed out and I was wondering what is the best materia to infuse my gear with?

With Stormblood only a month away, save the materia. This game is strict vertical progression of gear. Your i270 gear will be useless by the time you reach lvl65 at the latest.
Now, if you have not purchased and are not going to purchase SB, then I suggest tinkering with http://ffxiv.ariyala.com/. Crit > Spellspeed > Det is (or at least was) the recommended order of stats boosts. This is after you have hit the Accuracy Cap for 3.4.
If you have accuracy cap, meld spell speed, then crit, avoid det
Well we do use the same gear... and I'm wondering how I'll play it too.
I dont' think I can cover both SMN and BLM needs at the same time, but Summoner is definitely my main.
Summoner and Black Mage share the same gear and all my Materia is based on Summoner choices not BLM.
I went with mostly Crit (which we share a desire for as SMN and BLM)... but... because the Summoner has Ruin 3 and it costs about 1000 MP to use it outside of Dreadwyrm. As a SMN you stack Piety because the damage Ruin 3 does is so good that you WANT to use it outside Dreadwyrm and your DPS numbers will definitely show it.
So I packed a lot of Piety Materia on as well... so as to where most SMNs will have 9000 MP I've actually got a full 10,000 MP which is another full Ruin 3 over and above any other Summoner, and I never run out of MP to cast Ruin 3 with. (Come close in the Lava Scorp fight though in Sohm Al Expert).
My Crit is at 1050, but Spell speed is only 677 unless I swap for the Shire Hat, which drops my Crit to about 990 and raises Spell Speed to 720.
I am thinking this gear will probably be ok for BLM too, as it will probably affect the number of Fire IVs in the Enochian Fire Cycle.
Melds for summoner differ slightly over blm. Blm like Lelila has said Spell Speed>Crit
Crit there is just too much rng involved and is % of extra dmg possibly happening, spell speed is guaranteed damage.
Myself i have close to 1100 spell speed and 900 something crit
Hope that helps![]()
I admit I have to consider that, the outlook for SMN is very different.Melds for summoner differ slightly over blm. Blm like Lelila has said Spell Speed>Crit

We have 4-5 DoTs stacked on a target so a single BANE'd DoT under a Shadowflare is 4-5 chances to crit per tick on one target... and on like 10 targets has a good 40+ chances to Crit per tick, as to where a single Fire 4 has only 1 chance to crit... so my Crit gear may not get the same mileage as a BLM. Plus a lot of our stuff is AoE and hitting multiple targets so lot more chances to crit.
I may have to swap for the Shire Hat while I'm on BLM to increase the Spell Speed a bit more.
Well in a month or so it will all change again, stat wise, lol
I have to wonder if determination will make a return to be of higher value once more
You melded piety on a caster!?
I think my mind just exploded
I'm just some guy...
I got two builds for my smn the raid one with 1270 crit 590 det 746 ss and a casual time stasis build with 830 crit 615 det 1250 ss. even with 1250 ss I never felt the need of extra piety one more fire 4 or ruin 3 isnt worth the loss in crit/ss for more mp. although I like exotic builds please don't spread that piety is the stat to go for caster (smn)... it definitely isnt and will never be a primary of the casters secondaries : o
im kinda lost in trying to get your mindset of your smn stat build... you melt piety for "an extra ruin lll" out of trance but you don't have enough spell speed for the common "extra ruin lll" while being in trance... way more effective would be to raise your spellspeed at least to 745+ to get the 5th trance ruin lll - decreasing your piety... the right usage of aether flow and energy drain should be enough for okay-ish mp management.
