Looking for Input on SQUARE ENIX Software Token App

The app can be re-registered as many times as necessary, and it's free assuming you already have a smart phone.

The physical keyfobs last forever*, and my older one from when they were first introduced for FFXI has been through the wash at least once and still works to this day. However; they aren't free*, and once you deactivate it the serial code is locked out permanently and can never been registered to any SE account ever again.

I've never had an operational issue with the app outside of the site giving me grief in registering it, possibly just a brief net issue, but aside from that I've never had an issue with the token or the app being unreliable after registration.

*I'm sure that's an exaggeration, but given my first one is as old as the SE Token system itself and is still kicking, battery life has yet to prove to be an issue.
*Naturally there are exceptions with CE's or promotional offers, I'm sure.

You should be able to remove it anytime you like and log in just fine. The emergency code is on the back of your keyfob

I know this thread is getting a little old, but I was also wondering the same thing regarding the software app and wanted to confirm what phone/version of android everyone was using that said they didn't have any issues. The reviews were referencing issues with upgrading to Nougat (Android version 7.0 and newer), anyone on Nougat and hassle free? I'm still on an old version which is working fine but looking to upgrade my phone.

There is also the physical version of the one time password token but I am not sure if that is going to be reliable just going by the app reviews. I could be wrong, and I would not mind having to pay for it.

Physical tokens are the best. Less logic, more durable, battery lasts for years. I'm still on one I got in 2012.

Been using the phone app since ARR release without any problem. Only had to uninstall and re-register it once because I've changed my mobile. I do, however, wait a bit to upgrade smartphone's operational system, as sometimes it can render some old apps incompatible, so I wait a few days so devs can update their apps to new OS

I am not a regular subscriber and have been using this app on a Nexus 6P since 6Ps inception; I've upgraded to major Android OS changes without any problems.

I've had no problems. However, if I ever switch phones, I suspect there may end up being some problems if one forgets to remove the security token from the phone and reassign it as with all software tokens (I have one for Blizzard, Steam, and NCSoft). The problem is 99% related to the user unless those reviews are referring to actual bugs from earlier versions.

It really depends on the phone. I used the one time password app on my phone, but had problem with the phone resetting and having to use emergency removal password multiple times. I had enough when it resetted *twice* in a day, which basically locked me out of the account for 24 hours.

Not sure about you guys, but I did got my old account locked, I used the app token on that account (been playing since legacy, returned for 2.0 and bought both collectors editions for ARR and HW even) but once they did a big update on the phone iOS, the token did a reset and couldn't get my account back.

I have the emergency key with me but every time I put it in it tells me it's incorrect, so either I saved the emergency key wrong or something else went up, I had to buy a new copy of the game with the 2 expansions again to be able to play SB (still trying to race through MSQ, since I find the MSQ jump a bit expensive) so no SB for me aside for the new jobs.

If anything, I would get the physical token, not the app just to be sure, and if anyone has any help on how to recover my old account it would be appreciated, prob won't go back to it, since I'm having fun with my current FC and like my new server, but that account kinda has some sentimental value that I don't want it to get lost in a limbo.

I remember that iOS update, SE even released a post telling people to not update it until they had fixed the app. I was one of those that hadn't updated yet so when they fixed it my token app was working just fine after said update.

I always screenshot the emergency key just in case, one can always copy one or two characters wrong by mistake. Have you tried to contact SE support regarding your token? They are probably the only ones that can unlock your old account. I believe there were people that had a similar issue before that managed to get their account back after talking with SE.
