The way wow would treat this back in the day was a new log in would instantly boot the current log in from the game and the new one would have priority. It seems to be the opposite here. The game has to notice your D/C and log you out before allowing the new log in to happen.

So the slightest connection issue means you are gone for 3-5 minutes minimum. How is this acceptable? How has this not been changed in the last 4 years?

This doesn't happen in any other online game that I can think of. This basically shuts me out of any tank or healer job because I cannot risk being out of a fight for that long. If it hasn't been addressed by now I am guessing it never will but this is such a horrible experience that it really colors my feelings on the game as a whole.

The solution is: restart the game completely it will take you 30 seconds and you will be back into the game, the server notices that you left the game immediatley. Which isnt the case when you D/C.. it will take minutes strangely.

It's the way you disconnect. In a way you could say that your computer is still receiving the information and sending back information that your character is around but your client no longer has access to that session. It tends to happen in situations when you get a fingersnap like disconnect that kicks you off the client but then revives with enough time to send information back to the server but because you are back online the game thinks you are still in control of your character and you sadly have to wait for that lag delay til it realizes that it's sending information to no one.

This always will happen with DCs in dungeons and other instances. If I am in the normal world I can most of the time log in quite fast but when I am in an instance, it can take quite the time. Once I even had to restart my PC to be able to log in again. Not sure why this works out like that but its annoying, especially since you know that there are other people needing you right now.

Letter from the Producer LIVE Part IX Q&A Summary (10/30/2013)
Q: Will there be any maintenance fees or other costs for housing, besides the cost of the land and house?
A: In older MMOs, such as Ultima Online, there was a house maintenance fee you had to pay weekly, but in FFXIV: ARR we decided against this system. Similarly, these older MMOs also had a system where your house would break down if you didn’t log in after a while in order to have you continue your subscription, but this is a thing of the past and we won't have any system like that.
