    Races: Can't Decide~! (Opinions Appreciated)

Hi, I know this is a silly thing to ask, but I need help deciding a race.

    Notes:
    1. idc about class stats as it's not a issue to me since you can play everything.
    2. I know its a "pick what you like situation" but I would like some opinions and feedback on why you'd pick these races.

So the two I am stuck on are

    1. Miqo'te - Keeper of the Moon
    2. Hyur - Midlander

The reasons why I am stuck is because my indecisiveness, when I think of final fantasy races I think of humans more as majority of the game(s) have humans as 90% (estimation) of their population. Therefore, I naturally want to play a human to get the full "final fantasy character/oc" feel. However I like the cats as they seem fun to play but, there are allot of them.

What would you guys pick in this situation, and why? Opinions would be appreciated on these two races. Also did Miqo'te's exist before FFXIV like in older games?

    Welcome to Eorzea Rose!

I admit I am biased towards miqo'te as I love cats so it was pretty clear what race I was going to go with. (<crazy cat lady ).

Really though, with the Fantasia item available you are not really 'locked' into one character race for the entire game, as you can redo your character (race, gender, appearance, everything) by simply using the item in game (you get a free Fantasia after paying for a certain amount of subscription time, plus the Collector's Edition of the game came with a bonus one as well, otherwise they are bought on the Mogstation). So don't feel bad if you decide later you 'chose the wrong race for you', as you can easily change it. So experiment!

As for miqo'te existing prior to FFXIV, all the races of FFXIV with the exception of the au ra are loosely based on the races of Vana'diel from FFXI, although they had different names (miqo'te for instance are based on the mithra in FFXI), as FFXIV was originally developed by the same development team as FFXI and they wanted to attract FFXI players to the new game.

Either way, I like Midlander hyur but I am really happy with Sunseeker miqo'te and have no plans to change.

Thank you very much for your input~! It helped me allot, I think I might make a Miqo'te because I feel more "connected" to cats in terms of personality, plus I like their culture, as well as the only reason why I ever wanted to go with Hyur is because past FF games had humans as majority of their characters protagonists, antagonists, etc. Thank you again~!

The primary "protaganist team" is a little diverse. Not counting the warrior of light(you), you have 3 hyur, 2 lala, 1 miqo, and 2 elezen for the early part of the story. Later on you get people joining the team from every race(including roe and au ra eventually). So eventually everyone is represented at least by 1 NPC. Your antagonists... the high ranking imperials would fit your description. But we've also fought beastmen, dragons, void-creatures and the like. So i guess theyre even more diverse then the good guys are.

There is also the Ronso from FFX who were cat-people. Though, they are more like anthropomorphic cats - whereas the Mi'qote are more humans with feline features.

Mi'qote are the direct spiritual successor to the Mithra of FFXI.

Wouldn't really count whatever species Red XIII (FFVII) is, or the Moomba from FFVIII. They're straight-up cats that can talk. Will leave the various incarnations of Cait Sith out of it.

Still, based off of my own recollection, I see far more Mi'qote than I do any other species.

I am running a Mi'qote, mainly because I ran Mithra for a lot of FFXI, so it feels like home.

Its roundabout and time inefficient, but its what I do when I feel like using a fantasia.

Spend some time in character creator just fidgeting with options, try making "the same character" in multiple races/clans, save the variants. Pick one out finish making it, run to the MB try on a bunch of gear to get an idea of how they could look. Rinse repeat a few times, go with whatever speaks to you the most.

Going through this myself atm, I like to change it up a bit at expansion time.
