To put it generally, SAM "main" damage comes from 2 Source, Iaijutsu (building Sen/ GCD skills) and from Kenki (off GCD skills). on the start, you will learn on how to build Sen, as there are 3 combos. each combos has buff/debuff that you want to keep at all times. Then later the Kenki gauge unlock with the spender skills. The complexity of SAM is on how to build Sen efficiently while building/spending Kenki, as you cant neglect one or the other to maximise DPS

5 kenki. 10 kenki per Gekko / Kasha (Positional required). Yukikaze gives 10 no matter where you are.

Every class takes the same amount damage pretty much in PotD depending on the aetherpool armor. I never really felt like I was going to die with 99/99 aetherpool unless something dumb happened.

However, overworld mobs in SB areas hurt like hell even with ilvl 260+ gear. You definitely CANNOT fight more than one at a time even with a chocobo out.

I mean, you can but it can get scary. There was one particular area where I was doing a fate solo with 64 mobs and 66 caster mobs spawning nearby that I had to run for a moment from but that was the other one. other than that if you bloodbath and can dot more than one target assuming health lasts a long time. I took bloodbath and second wind for early leveling, then dropped second wind later on and was too lazy to put it back. There were times I missed it but I never died for want of it, even during the occasional 2-3 mob pull. Let me state for the record I never intentionally pulled more than one mob, but if it happened, it happened and you could deal with it.

Will someone please do the community a favor and create a thread for Samurai, where you can have the optimal rotation discussion , tips, guides etc... like you have for all the other jobs
I would do so, but i lack the time or knowledge to do so, and Sam deserves its spot

Anyone know perfect Hagakure usage? I do not mean in the opener but in general.

While Hissatsu: Guren is worth 16 potency per Kenki (single target), Kaiten: Midare Setsugekka (worth 80 Kenki) is 13.5 potency per Kenki. It's clearly worth it to pay for a Guren. However, Shinten is worth only 12 so it might not be worth it to just Shinten more.

Taking the difference that Midare costs a gcd while Shinten doesn't might favor the latter making Hagakure always worth using. But I'm not a real theorycrafter to calculate that so it'd be great if anyone else has figured this out.

Is Hagakure only worth using when needed to perform the more efficient spenders (Kaiten: Higanbana or Hissatsu:Guren) or is it always worth it?

(I do see some math in the earlier part of this thread favoring the latter - always use Hagakure, but I'd still like confirmation since there was disagreement about it)

Anybody figure out a good opener yet for starting with zero sen and zero kenki? So far I have been going

Hakaze > jinpu > gekko > (kaiten) > higanbana > (Meikyo) > gekko > shifu > kasha > Hakaze > (shinten) > Yukikaze > (Hakagure) > Hakaze > (guren) then continuing from there with the jinpu combo. Would like to know if anybody has anything definitive yet.

Whew. I thought it was just me.

I had a MSQ where I have to defeat these refugees in order to convince them that going up against the Brass Blades was suicide. My chocobo was in the stables, so I was by myself.

But hey, I was a samurai and these were poorly trained peasants. How hard could it be?

    I died three times.

On a lark, I switched to my white mage job and walked through the quest with no problem at all. To say I was a bit bummed would be an understatement. Wondered if I should try playing a damage dealer at all.

So, I am heartened to read other players feel samurai are squishy. They are nothing like how they are portrayed in the trailers.
