AST Spire/Ewer?

So I saw in the new updates for AST that the Ewer and Spire are now automatically given to all party members, no longer just single target. My question is that if a player/group already has a card active and applied to them will this overwrite those cards when they're used or am I not understanding their tooltips correctly?
