As I understand it, all pre-orders will recieve an e-mail when their package is shipped with the code, having the physical edition is pretty much having a backup disc and box. For in store purchases I assume that just means you'll get the code printed when you pick it up.

I initially did an in-store pre order but I'll be out of the country when the game comes out and I was hoping I could keep playing until I'm back and pick it up from the store. But if it is as you're saying, I think I'll cancel my order and place an online one
