Noob needing help, might be a bug?

So, I might be stupid, or might be having technical difficulties; I bought two Modern Aesthetics (one Adventurer and one Rainmaker, with the new event), and I understand I need to Use them in order to be able to purchase the haircut from the Aesthetician, but when I click to Use my items, it says "Unable to use item." What do I need to do to get these out of my inventory and potentially on my character's head? Thanks

Have you completed the quest line for the aesthetician? If you don't have him unlocked you'll be unable to proceed with using any look changing items, like rainmaker.
If you haven't yet, talk to S'dhodjbi in Limsa Lominsa upper deck, around the drowning wrench. Complete the issued quest line and should be able to use the items.

I vaguely recall something about not being able to be in an instance and use them. This I think includes houses. If this is the case try moving outside your house or to a city or other open world location and it might work for you?

Houses should be fine (I think), but definitely applies to Inn rooms (where OP is likely to be summoning Aesthetician). If you check the Inn rules with the NPC, they go on about not being able to craft, desynth, convert, etc etc. Not sure if they're actually explicit on all the things you can't do. But yeah. Most of those "Use"y things fall under that.

I actually just finished testing in my house and it does work there, but now that you've said "Inn" I believe this is exactly what I was recalling. Hopefully that solves it for them.

All of that is correct, finish the quest if you have not done that, don't stand in the inn room or dungeon when trying to use it.
