This isn't WoW. It's also not FFXI.

It wouldn't even matter if it was. It wouldn't change the fact that the system in place now is fun, and that the change proposed will be less fun.

That's all there is to it. We all know what's its like to stand in one place and cast. It's less fun than being able to move around while casting.

This moving to cancel casting may work much better for ffxi, as most of the leveling is done at a static location, and the fight generally last a little bit longer.

In ffxiv, so far the general leveling tactics is to get multiple enemy links, and the party is constantly on the move. The fight to each enemy is also shorter meaning party members don't stay in one location for very long, adding the fact that they will be doing self combos that require party members to move even more...

to be honest, as cnj and thm, i found myself having to constantly cast buffs as I don't usually cover everybody in one cast, it messes up the buff timers, and since the buff timer is so short (5 minutes) there is always somebody close to be out of buff....

If i have to stand steady to cast, it will make situation much worse... i believe, unless they 1. drastically increase cast range, so i don't need to run and cast, 2. drastically increase buff timer, so i don't need to constantly buff to ensure everybody gets a buff, or 3 give us an ability that allows cast when running...

in FFXI you stood around statically, however, in FFXIV your much more on the move even if your a mage.

how is this mechanic at all even necessary in this game?
its the exact equivalent of having to draw your weapon to cast any spells or abilities which they themselves thought was a bad mechanic and abolished. why is this restriction necessary? moving while casting didnt do anyone any harm at all!

you use a video to try and prove your point, a video that has a lot of flaws in it, do I really need to explain this to you? It is quite possible it is intended but that video is the worst kind of proof available.

PS: I could care less if we can or cant move while casting it makes no difference to me but stating this is going to ruin the Ifrit fight is laughable.

you lack the intelligence needed to continue this conversation. If you cannot see where not being able to move while casting is a problem, maybe this isn't the game for you.

Well the problem with this logic is that knitting and performing brain surgery are things that people do in real life, while casting magic is something that is never done in real life. You will never find it written in the journals of science that magic casting is a stationary affair.

Casting while moving or having to stand still while casting is a by-product of code, nothing else. It's a choice made by the developers.

For those of you who like the current system here is a quote that sums up exactly how I feel about this issue.

Having to activate the spell again in the middle of casting to cancel it is bad design. This also makes cancelling spells that are activated via macros really hard as well.

Now whether this is fixed by adding an assignable button to a controller/keyboard, or by moving/jumping I don't care it just needs to be fixed.

I'm all for this personally it makes it much easier to cancel spells.

Pretty much every MMO out there doesn't allow you to cast whilst moving and many don't even allow you to cast on a target who isn't in your line of sight. (I just hope they don't bring in the later cause that could F my healing right up)

Casting while moving or having to stand still while casting is a by-product of code, nothing else. It's a choice made by the developers.

I do like being able to cast spells and move but the whole "being still so I can concentrate on casting a spell" thing is pretty common in fantasy fiction and role playing games. It's not like they are totally pulling it out of thin air.

I would like to know if they are making this change for some technical or class balancing reason or from a "in fantasy land magic users should have to concentrate to cast spells" reason.

A dev response to WHY they are changing it would help a lot...
