Problem with "Optional" Items in the Cash Shop

How long before they stop putting "optional" items in the game? Think about it. The only thing you need in the game is gear that gets you to your next ilvl or allows you to complete content. Such as dungeon gear, tome gear, and raid gear. Glamour recipes, mounts, furniture, all that is optional stuff that you don't need in or to accoplish stuff in the game correct? So if our sub doesn't get us the things they design and put in the cash shop, why should it any of the option stuff we have now?

I agree people should have to pay for server transfers, name changes, and race changes. But glamour, mounts, dyes and emotes should all be things you don't have to pay extra for. Otherwise, why put any of that obtainable in the game at all?

    Misread post...

Real answer: If you think people would continue to play a game that stripped down you are sorely mistaken.

edit: And I really hate these attempted slippery slope arguements as there is another sub-based game that has had a cash shop for years upon years and it has yet to devolve into things only being sold for cash. There is no reason for anyone to think it will here either.

To maintain the facade that people aren't being milked, and because subs are what ultimately pay the bills. For the time being I'm just glad that all the optional things from a given X.Y patch cycle aren't being made limited time only, like in WoW.

Real answer, because it's expensive to make 'optional' content, but people clamor for it all the same. SE has decided that, rather than making only what is feasible and leaving us with only a few optional things all available in-game they would create MogStation and we would have oodles and oodles of optional bs, but for real hard earned dollars.

It's their game and a lot of the optional stuff they've created for Mogstation is great, but I'm never paying for it so I'm kinda sad to miss out.

Long as people carelessly pour money into the shop, they'll just keep testing how far they can go.

Does it cost them extra money a month to have the items available for people to purchase?

Does it cost players anything if they're not interested?

Do people like to complain about optional items that are only there for people who actually want it?

They're completely optional. They don't impact the game/make it pay to win. It gets SE a bit more money when people purchase the items to help them potentially upgrade stuff on their side and improve the game.

Sorry you think that the optional items are like sandpaper and it's rubbing you the wrong way~

I'm gonna drag this thread down I think:

so by this line of reasoning, if they opted to keep a Trial fight behind Mogstation, we wouldn't have any right to complain because it's completely optional and doesn't impact the game/make it pay to win?

Keeping things that could be in the game out of it does in fact change the game, we're losing out on the game that could have been, see?

That's an interesting jump in logic. My question, though. Does the trial drop something usable in combat, or is it just something for fun, in your scenario?

to keep it in line with how they implement Mogstation right now, it would be 'for fun' and wouldn't drop anything.

I'm thinking if they like put the new Hildebrand behind a paywall, how upset would people get who aren't peeved by the current implementation. 'Course Hildebrand has orchestrion rolls and glamour and stuff so it's not a fair comparison, but I think it's an interesting way to put the question to some people.

The cash shop will never go away, you don't need anything there, if you don't like it don't buy it, the rest of us will continue spending money there to support the game, [insert reasoning that has been said 10000 times before], etc etc.
