    I don't know why you're being so smug with me, but I went back and read over everything again. I personally find the English translation to be misleading.

    1.) The original Japanese of that Dev note does in fact say that Protect and Shell cannot be used at the same time, and that the effect applied afterward overwrites the previous effect. Trying to make the translation more literal would look too weird so I'm leaving it at that.

    2.) Looking at the Japanese description of protect, it simply states that it increases defense.

    3.) What makes me believe there may not be a shell is the level 24 trait. I'll post the English, the Japanese, and then how I would have worded it.

    English Version: Increases magic defense gained from Protect.

    Japanese Version: プロテスで魔法防御力もアップする。

    How I would have worded the English: By using Protect, magical defense is also increased.

    (Edit: As a note, there is a distinction between 防御 [Defense] and 魔法防御 [Magical Defense]. The description for the protect spell makes no mention of magic)


    Bottom line in my opinion, ambiguous translations are ambiguous.

    I think it's a mistranslation, and they mean that protect and shell are now one in the same. It probably merely lowers damage of both magical and physical nature. If you notice there is no shell on the skill list.

    I'm with AdvancedWind on this one.

    The Shell effect achieved from using the Ironwill Unguent. And perhaps groundwork for future updates.

    Otherwise, it may be a typo in the Japanese text if this was not intended. Other localizations are doing their due diligence in translating based on the information given.

    •[dev1206] The effects of Protect and Shell have been made mutually exclusive, and one now overwrites the other.

    Maybe it is a mistranslation, but to me it reads as if you can have either protect or shell on your character.

    Now they will behave like bio and dia used to in FFXI. Great.

    I addressed it a few posts up, but as far as the Japanese is worded, it says the exact same thing.

    However, at level 6 we learn protect, and at level 24 the trait that improves protect adds magic defense onto the physical defense protect offers.

    Hey guys did they remove weapon skills from the mages? I didnt see any. Also when a mage combos does it affect mp consumption like it does for tp moves?

    I'm surprised no one has commented on the THM trait of "enhanced feebling magic" lol. I mean honestly the whole pro/shell thing was alrdy resolved about 2-3 pages in by saying that an item still grants the shell effect. So ya, it's just confusing that with SE's 15 limit for each class ability that people are so adamant about wanting shell, that would mean they would have to remove an ability to keep it at 15.

    There objective with the class changes is to make battles more fluid and fast. Before the abilities at hand were to overwhelming but even then a lot of abilities saw little use and were a waste of space. If anything I would say they should adjust "Cleric Stance" lol it should be more like "Warlock's Stance" since it does improve Magic att and lower cure potency.

    Though studying the CNJ spell list a tad there seems to be something off with it

    For support I see
    Cure, Cura, Curaga
    Protect, Stoneskin

    DMG:
    Stone,Stonera
    Aero,Aerora

    Enfeeble:
    Repose

    The rest are pretty much abilities but overall I do see a lack of utility for support. It's very very simplified down to just protect and stoneskin, then on healing duty the rest of the time.

    There is no Haste, Blink, Bar spells, ana spells, granted I can understand that they wanna do it a step at a time so they aren't trying to overwhelm the battle planners by jumping in and adding in enfeeble mobs and having to cure status ailments over time. But ya, it'll be interesting to see how things pan out, though I do sense that healers may get bored easily overtime especially if they are told by party members not to use dmg spells and conserve mp for healing lol and keeping their enmity down.
