OMG, when I saw the first trailer with the spell I prayed we could actually use it.They should have simply made these spells reactionary. In other words, if a large AOE spell is going to be cast, the support would have to cast Shell.
It would be even more awesome if shell had a visible range so people could get inside the spell; just like the limsa intro.
Months later after actually signing up for the game. /SupahSaydFayce
If we could actually get that spell, well, I would be one happy boy.![]()

That would be one of the coolest things I have ever seen done in an MMO. I highly doubt it's gonna happen.. But it would be cool. They should have simply made these spells reactionary. In other words, if a large AOE spell is going to be cast, the support would have to cast Shell.

Yeah, when I saw the Lalafell in the opening movie and Y'shtola in the Limsa Lominsa intro both perform spells like this, I was sure we'd be getting them in game.
Boy was I sad when we didn't.
Well, it's honestly not difficult. Cause...well, Blizzard figured it out (I know, I'm going to get flogged for another WoW reference).
Unholy Death Knights in WoW get an Anti-Magic Zone ability just like this. They cast a dome-like bubble, your party/raid members have to run inside. Reduces spell damage by 75%. Discipline Priests get something similar with Power Word: Barrier. It summons a holy barrier on a target location that reduces all damage done to friendly targets by 25% (they don't even have to be in your party). While inside, spellcasting will not be interrupted by damage.
Just sayin'.
And, yes, it would be cool.

Told you so, 10 pages ago.

We tried to tell 'em ^_^ And that's what matters.

That is a horrible design decision that only makes this issue worse.
There is no reason for Protect and Shell, fundamental spells in the FF series, to be bastardized like this. There is especially no reason for making a Medicine overwrite a Buff. That is stupid beyond belief.
I don't know what games Yoshida played when he thought he was playing Final Fantasy, but his claim of trying to give this game more of a Final Fantasy feel is being blatantly thrown out the window. This joke is just one more proof of that.
Spell names and effects are one of the few things in the series that have always been constant. Yes, sometimes There was no protect and shell. Sometime there was Wall and Barrier. But they were not the same spells. They had different effects.
You can not make a game feel like a Final Fantasy by doing everything the exact opposite way a Final Fantasy Game would.
You do realize, as has been pointed out time and time again here, that CNJ will get a trait marrying Protect and Shell into the same spell? That is a horrible design decision that only makes this issue worse.
