Halfway to Heavensward

Not sure where to post this but figured new player would be good because I am new to all of this. I just finished the ultimate weapon quest last night and noticed this is the half way point to getting into HW content. I\\'ve also read in other forums where the bahamut raids are required for the story quests others say they aren\\'t but all say the same that no one runs them anymore which has me worried. Are the raids required? I would like to hope they aren\\'t but right now I feel like i might not get to HW any time soon in hopes of trying to get caught up for SB when it goes live in 3 weeks.

Don't worry about the Binding Coil, it is not, repeat not, required to access Heavensward content at all. Completing all three Coils does add a small extra bit of dialogue during a couple of HW patch story quests but they are not necessary to even understand the scenes in question (they just help explain the motivations for a certain character in those scenes), and are not required for those quests either - alternative dialogue is used if you haven't done the Coils by that stage.

So by all means keep going with the story - if you have someone who is level 60 helping you can probably burn quickly through all the patch storylines to get to HW by next month as they're pretty easy and simple for a high level player - even the Steps of Faith battle at the end of the ARR story is pretty easy now. So don't give up!

That's so true but I would wait till after SB hits if you're planning on finishing ARR/HW before that. By that time you might be even able to sync it and solo but that would defeat the purpose of the whole coil ambiance that I personally think, everybody should experience at least once, and as it was intended aka sync'd/minilvl etc.

But as Enkidoh stated, coil is not mandatory for entering HW, in fact it's not mandatory for anything anymore besides being nostalgic.

As to being halfway: By simply the number of main scenario quests, it's closer to 2/3 of the way. (There are between 181 to 184 quests to reach Ultimate Weapon depending on which city you started in, and there are another 100 left before the official start of Heavensward, though many of those are in fact already part of the HW storyline.) However, while reaching Ultimate Weapon, you also had to level from 1-50, should have leveled another to 15 for your job unlock and done a bunch of class/job quests, so have to have done a fair amount of other content besides just those MSQ. Though there is certainly lots of content available between that milestone and HW's start, the only part that's required is the 100 remaining MSQ. So I'd consider you at least 3/4 or 4/5 of the way through, probably more.

(Then again, that's compared to reaching Heavensward. Reaching Stormblood would be quite a bit further. While you're quite a bit beyond halfway to HW, you might be around halfway to SB.)

And no, Coil is not required for the MSQ. (Apparently there's one section later in the story where you'll get slightly different dialog depending on whether you've done it or not, but that's it.)

Ok ty guys so much for the information I feel so much better about moving along in the msq. Thank you Niwashi for the layout of where I am at in the quest line progress. Yeah I have been going since lv1 with my THM to 30, ARC to 15 plus different side quests I haven't been just doing the msq which I have enjoyed greatly can't wait to continued the story now thanks again everyone!

You just need to do the MSQ. I think what they meant was that you have to get far enough in the MSQ to get the quests to unlock those, and they do have their little quest lines in themselves to do.
