    Alcohol and other intoxicants.

Many MMORPGS and other offline games allow characters to drink or ingest substances that alter their character's perception of the world around them. Will FFXIV ever allow us to buy a pint at the pub and experience similar effects? Is this something players want, or are you fine with it never being incorporated?

I know this is not a pressing issue and the devs have many things to do before they even consider it, but it is one of the many things that other games incorporate which increases verisimilitude.

Personally, I think intoxicated fisticuffs (once PVP is implemented) would be amusing with inverted controls and blurred vision.

What are your thoughts on the matter, fellow forum dwellers?

Would never use it myself, but I would absolutely love to watch these, ah, "intoxicated fisticuffs" matches.

Drunk a la GTA IV was the best.

When you took the girl out on a date and both got drunk and ya'll are having a coversation while stumbling all over the sidewalk was hilarious. To this day, I still love to do that xD

This reminds me of that part in .hack//DUSK where Balmung roleplays getting drunk on Sake >.>

I remember the devs having commented on this before. It's a ratings thing. Allowing your character to drink will come with a much stiffer rating.

I heard in lotro you would collapse and wake up at the end of the world surrounded by highlevel mobs... sounds fun.
    And yeah, a rating thing.

The "Drunk" effect in Guild Wars is pretty neat. Seeing the screen distort as well as your character involuntarily spout out nonsense is fun, hehe.

It's a shame this game's rating is preventing stuff like that, even if it's just for fun.

i always just pictured rolandberry juice in ffxi probably being a vat of alcohol. running threw crawlers nest in the past is lol to me, i just picture the place being a big ol tarutaru distillery. while i don't care if they add this or not the idea of messing around controls for pvp might be something some people might enjoy. not me for say, it's the reason i absolutely hate vehicles in shooters. they usually are cockamamie controls totally opposite of my character and find it annoying. /em stickies a bomb to your tank bish. but find a way to add this could be cool for those who do. simple ways to change the game play can easily give the same pvp content a little more life time.

on diff subject i kinda liked how they added in dcu a seperate pvp where you get to chose all the super heroes and villains rather then being yourself. this creates pvp were everyone any level can go fight each other with similar moves. if they can add something like this would be great. adding a way to pvp as goblins, imps, all the beastmen types would be great.

back on subject, don't care about the actual addition of drinking for subject matter or role playing or anything like that. i'll take it or leave it, though having stuff like this can be fun. i loved the belts in ffxi that changed you into a mob, they were fun to run around in while waiting to enter dynamisis or something. fireworks and what have you. doesn't have to be alchohol ...but any drinking potion would be cool.

I'm not buying the ratings argument. It already says "alcohol reference" on the back of the box, and most of the other MMOs that include alcohol are rated the same as FFXIV, T for Teen (in NA, at least, I know other countries have different age rating systems). I'm not saying the devs didn't give that as the reason, but it's a weak excuse IMHO.

I could go for some drinks a la Bastion. I love me some Lunkhead Liqueur.

A sip of Lunkhead Liqueur will toughen you right up. Too bad it's like drinking a saddlebag.
