Novice Network: Tick the language boxes for a shorter queue.

This will mostly apply to data centers with multiple languages....

A lot of the time new players on Tonberry ask in NN why their queue is taking so long. The answer? Languages.

In your duty finder, look at the top left for a little gear 'Open Duty Finder Settings'. Then hit 'Language' and make sure the boxes relevant to your region are ticked. For Tonberry? JP and English. Not ticking JP as an English player will catapult your queue time.

I feel like this should almost be default, or at the very least in a guide one DF is unlocked.

On the one hand, yes, selecting all languages will shorten queue times.

On the other hand, if you don't actually speak the languages that you signed up for, your knowledge of rotation, tactics, and social conventions need to be perfect, because it's within the party's prerogative to kick you if you can't understand and respond to queries and instructions in the language you signed up for, resulting in time that could have been saved by queuing for languages that you actually speak.

And this is the whole reason it specifies languages in the first place. You're expected to be able to talk to your teammates. If you can't, then you're holding the group back in its ability to coordinate. Sometimes the need to get through a queue makes the need for that inevitable, but abusing the language settings isn't likely to ever be a default or officially recommended practice.

Yes. While it shortens queue times, it annoys everyone if you can't follow basic instructions or communicate properly and you'll eventually end up blacklisted if you fake language proficiency. I've had several frustrating parties with English-speaking players who couldn't understand the chat (as well as several non-frustrating ones with those willing to try) and it causes enormous problems.

If your queues are so long that they're ruining your day yet you aren't willing to learn the server language, please consider trying one of the other servers - it will be much better for you and your party members in future. As someone who plays with a huge ping to get on a server with the right language I can confirm it's not all that difficult to adapt to.
