Is there a damage log by spell?

New to game (L30 ARC) and now have cross classed Thaumaturge to level 15 and Conji to level 8, so now can add AERO to my DoTs. Trouble is, other than the scrolling damage numbers when fighting, I look at the battle log and just see that a spell has started, and then ended.

Apparently there are no "add-ons" allowed for FF14, so I am looking for specific damage done for each of my DoTs. Is there some advanced settings to show specific amount of damage for each of my DoTs per tick? Hard to set spell rotation without knowing exactly how much damage each spell is doing.

    Thanks for your response....

You can base it off the potency in the tooltip, since your standard nukes display that instead of damage as well.

E.g. A single nuke might do 300 potency, and a DoT might do 150 potency plus 40 potency per tick for 24 seconds. Since ticks are every 3s, the dot has a total potency of 150 + 6 * 40 = 390. Compared to the nuke, that dot will do more damage if able to run for the entire duration. The actual damage numbers don't matter since they scale the same from the relative potencies which stay the same.

And no, there's no setting for displaying specific numbers for dots in the log. Even the third party parsers for the game have to guesstimate dot damage by extrapolating from the other data for this reason.

Thanks for your reply Mhaeric. Guess that will work. I am used to EQ, EQ2, WoW that have detailed damage logs. I don't find the "battle" log helpful at all, but I guess that's just FF14.

Another question if you please.... I see debuffs show up under the target frame, but don't see a frame for me that shows buffs. For example, if I cast "protect" I don't see that icon anywhere. Am I missing some setting to show buffs and debuffs on me?

You might have the bar hidden for some reason. Check your HUD layout for the status effects ui element. If the name of the element is in blue then it is hidden. Right clicking on it in the layout menu until it is white will show it. The default position is along the top of the screen in the middle.

This seems like a question I should have known a long time ago, but is the 3 second tick time same for all dots and hots?

Yes. Iirc, it's also server side meaning everyone's dots tick at the same time, but I'm not 100% on that.
