Cheers again guys Lol Driclone, I know, I was like wtf! I've got some knowledge of computers, but hardware isn't my forte. I'm thinking of getting a Corsair RM750x 80+ Gold Modular PSU, and the good news is that at the moment, the card is running a lot quieter, but I'm still going to upgrade the power supply I had the exact same issues as you, so the sooner I upgrade it the better!

LalaRu, I will definitely check that out, thank you

I would like to give you a bit of advice about PSU. I had taken A+ certification classes while I was in high school and build desktops for my family and myself. I have learned something in the past couple of years though when it comes to PSU.

To help prevent bad voltage and from burning out the PSU, you should not exceed the 80% limit of the PSU under normal max load, i.e. running the game when there is not much demand and raiding. The only times you should be going over 80% of max wattage is when there is loading of new apps or short maxing out of GPU and CPU.

So, I would add up the max voltage requirements of the HDDs, GPU, and motherboard. Set that to be the 80% because when you add in the fans and the disk drives (If you still use dvds or blu-rays), that would be when you may go over 80% limit.

I started to do this because I would burn out my PSU about every 3 years. The one I am using now has lasted me over 5 years and still puts out good voltage levels. Hope this helps.

    OMG on the PSU nonsense.

Getting a 700 or 800w is plain overkill.

NVIDIA suggests that a 300W PSU is enough for that card.

I'm running an 980 on a 600w. Total system pull is about 425W considering my card can use upwards of 200w to itself.

The graphics card fan noise can come from a few things like an improperly installed TIM under the GPU heatsink, obstruction of case fans, cpu fan, or GPU fan (by dust or cables) which limit how much hot air is being moved from the GPU.

Running furmark for an hour or two might improve the TIMs heat conductibility and lower temps afterwards, but don't look for a PSU upgrade to slow down your fans.

However, if you MUST run out and get a new PSU, I'd recommend the 550W from EVGA, which is about $50 and will leave you room for future upgrades, and I do believe those have a 5 year warranty.

This is pretty accurate. The calculated max for Panthers setup is 300w. This is alot to do with the 1050 ti pulling at most 75w since it is a model that only draws power from the PCIe lane.

A PSU actually needs to hit about 75% of its capacity to run at the highest efficiency.

Xeon, it might be nonsense for you, but it may not be for others.

Yeah depending on the build and on what you plan on doing, it can be overkill. In my case, it's not. It's what's allowing me to play and to do upgrades without suffering a lack of power, which I had prior.

Also, you recommend a 550w, but did you check the power certificates? To ensure that you don't get loads of problem with your power supply, it's always best to get an 80+ Gold certificated supply or higher, which allows you to run a power supply continuously at around 90% efficiency, no matter the load. Of course you don't want to run with a 90% load on the supply at all times so, like Judge said, it's best to stick around 75% or even lower to ensure that the supply works correctly on long term.

So yeah, again it all depends on your plans and the build you want/have, but it's definitely not a bad thing. And the one Panther chose is a good one for the price (It's just 100$ in canada so I'm guessing it's about 75 in the US). So he'll definitely be able to do what he wants with it if he upgrades his build and be able to run many graphic cards and specs.

80 plus is good and all but it doesn't define a PSU totally. These are built to be max effecient at 75%. 80plus not tested for every load possible, and even an 80plus PSU can drastically loose efficiency when only using a low percentage of it's load. A difference in the bronze to platinum rating will get you roughly 7% to 8% more efficiency. A 750W EVGA for example will run two 980tis at once, anything above that are made for tri and above GPUs.

A Bronze rated PSU will run 24/7 for many many years as long as it's from a reputable vendor such as corsiar. EVGA, and many of the other reputable manufacturers. A gold or platinum rating doesn't mean that it will last you longer and is not an indicator of longevity of a unit.

A person might save a meager $12 a year in electricity over an entire year by going with a gold or platinum, unless you live in a region such as Hawai'i where electric can cost you 6x plus as much as in the mainland US. The only time I could make a solid recommendation to a customer for a higher rated unit was when i lived there, but for the rest of the states, its not economical, not by a long shot, and a gold or plat unit could cost you 3x of what you need to spend.

But... if it makes you feel secure when you're in bed under your blankie then by all means, go for it.

Please bear in mind that I did mention that I'm not knowledgeable in building computers, so knowing what's adequate or overkill.... yeah I wouldn't know, hence why I'm asking I'm from the Uk btw, the psu I mentioned previously I've seen for £160, Driclone is correct in that I may add more upgrades in the future (gpu and memory being most likely), until I can buy a new computer. I don't build pcs myself but do like to get most value for money, and wouldn't want to go overkill...but like you guys said, it all depends on what one's setup is Thank you for the advice and input!

@panther. Hopefully we can get your game running properly too. It is good to learn about power supplies but currently if your system only pulls 300w on a 450w PSU technically it shouldn't cause issues unless it is somehow defective.

I wonder if you could run the stormblood benchmark at Max 1080p to get a baseline of where your performance sits.
