A question for DPS mains and what not

So, I have a question or two for those of ya'll that main DPS

How do you guys do it? I've always been interested in playing BLM and MCH, but the queue times for tanks/healers have kind of spoiled me. I've also always felt that I'd claw my way to the cap, and then just end up using one of my tanks/healer jobs for endgame anyway because of supply and demand. I'd ideally like to be able to fill whatever role my FC/static would need of me. Perhaps I'm biased but I often think it'll just be anything but a DPS, but I could just be being silly

Do you guys ever feel like you're judged/kicked more harshly and readily from end game dungeons?

I guess the biggest bit is, I enjoy party play and dungeons, but have no real static group to play with so it's just easier to tank/heal.

How has your experience been, as a DPS? How do you plan to go about SB with two new DPS coming out as well?

I know this question is probably silly :P Just wanted to ask though

Honestly my Queue times as a Ninja main don't ever really feel that much longer (if at all) than my Scholar's. Dungeons require a lot of DPS and they fill up pretty quickly. I don't ever feel like I'm judged harshly or kicked at all. ...Then again I think my dps isn't half bad. So as long as I keep hitting stuff I'm good.

I feel healer and tanks get judged more harshly because if they fuck up, usually it means a wipe. You know?

Dps is far more lax than I think you're suggesting.

Edit: And with stormblood coming with even more DPS, I think their timers might hurt a little bit. But it'll be for the best. I think we'll still have the same ratio of healers vs tanks vs dps in the end result

    Its never really bothered me,

I've generally been at 12-14 minute queue times... sometimes only 5 minutes at high levels expert and 60th level dungeons. I never get complaints on my DPS as a SMN, and I tend to get a lot of Coms. Whenever I play either BLM or SMN I get a lot of them.

I have come to learn a lot of it from SMN is because the AoEs in this game are much like Crowd Control in other games. And a little DPS CC like that seriously speeds up the run, if you're really good at it, people notice. There's a lot of really good Single Target Damage DPS classes... but not as many that can AoE DPS which equates to crowd control in this game. Hence that small portion fills neatly in a gap and creates the need. (Much like the Control Mage of Dungeons and Dragons, where crowd control is defined as a Fireball or just outright destroying weaker mobs leaving only the strong standing)

People appreciate a good AoE damager and its readily apparent when you have a good one. Crowd Control, is really about controlling the battlefield, whether thats an AoE sleep... or just an AoE Magic blast wiping out the weaker ones...

I have my 263 blm main, a 257 war and a 257 Ast. Typically I find queuing as blm depending on time of day between 5-10mins... But also depends on what dungeon/raid I'm running. If I need to run something due to a quest which isn't job specific, I'll pick blm. If q is longer then 10 mins I'll switch to Ast or war. But overall in q as a dps isn't as bad as it used to be.

DPS ques require some patience. But like others have said, it's not really as bad as some people make it seem. I have a friend who can't stand any que that goes on for more than 5 minutes. If you're impatient, you probably won't have a good time. I've never been kicked from an instance as a dps. But that's also because I'm rarely the player holding the group back. You're more likely to get kicked as a tank or healer. As long as you know your skills and what you're capable of, you won't have problems. The strength of dps ques comes from 24 man raids. Those ques are pretty quick most of the time, whereas I've spent upwards to 30+ minutes in que as a tank for Dun Scaith. There's a weird dichotomy between dungeon ques and 24 man ques that people rarely seem to acknowledge.

So much other things to do in this game while queueing that waiting time isn't an issue. Some examples are gathering, crafting, FATE-ing, Gold Saucer, the list goes on.

Honestly, the DPS queues have never ~felt~ terribly long. I always manage to find something to do while queued, whether in-game or on the side IRL while I'm waiting. It's made a world of difference enjoying the time I spend queued.

    Or, write.

40 pages of a novel are already done.

DPS queues give me time to tab out and watch videos, or do small tasks in-game.
