    Diversion

    This is not a troll thread, this is a none DPS player asking a simple question or even poll as it were.

    How many of you DPS class players will be loading your bar with Diversion so that you can hit this and fly into your most powerful combo?

    Currently the having to level Archer to 34 to get the threat reduction may not appeal to everyone, but the class role will have Diversion ready for you to pick.

    Will this be on the tool kit for you guys or will you still go all out to beat the tank for the aggro of the mob.

    Again this a simple curious question to you guys that are already seasoned in the DPS role

    As a SMN it doesn't really apply,

    Our damage is split between us and our pets by nature, so we have to do a crapton of Personal Damage before its ever going to get agro from a tank.

    The only place we notice is backline damage. A lot of this does not appear to be random but rather directly related to the amount of agro you are getting and is not mitigated by the Tank anyway. Unless its like 4 AoEs for the four party members or the enormous full area AoE. But most of the singular attacks in the backline side are related to the agro generation.

    I've even seen them target my pet in openers where I am still applying DoTs and havent' generated anything yet.

    Hence this is going to target you no matter what and diversion won't help.

    Black Mages and healers are the ones who generate a ton of it, so it is possible they might, but again its pretty hard for anyone to take agro from a tank that is even remotely good.

    EDIT: The only place it really applies to SMN is during AoE, where we expend a ton of AoE damage very quickly, but still any tank worth his damage mitigation holds agro through it like its nothing. Even when I'm multi-critting a Deathflare for 10k on several mobs.

    Depending on whether the tanks in your group are min-maxing dps or not, it may actually be necessary. Even with shadewalker+quelling on cooldown bards and machinists still generate a ton of enmity in long fights like a12s.

    It will really depend on how hard the disparity between agro generation and damage dealt comes down to be entering 4.0
    The overhaul will for sure bring some minus points in this regard.

    As a NIN I don't believe I'll need it any time soon, specially with Shadewalker as mentioned before.
    As a MNK I would welcome it... its never fun to do the full opener just for the boss to turn around and tank-buster my face to the moon and have to start over :/
    AS a SAM/RDM/BRD not sure yet tho.

    You arer asking people how they will play the expansion before we know the full extent of the job / combat changes...

    Depends how important diversion seems to be, and if there's other more viable/interesting choices for the content I'm running. Right now it's pretty low on priority for me, since NIN/MCH/BRD.

    Like a few have already said, it kinda depends on how things are handled in 4.0. As things stand right now, as a MNK, I'd gladly welcome it. I pull aggro a lot and it's not fun for anyone.
