On the Properties of Summoner 4.0 (tentative)

Here's some analysis on the upcoming changes to the summoner class. My sources are MTQ capture and Mr. Happy from Youtube, both gave outstanding coverage and my thanks to them for sharing.

Comments and discussion are definitely welcome.

Your info about Ruin III is incorrect. Once you acquire Ruin III, it automatically replaces Ruin I. So there will be no option to spam Ruin I in the interest of MP preservation.

Also, I saw in the videos that when Futher Ruin procs, it automatically changes the icon of Ruin III into Ruin IV. It's an automatic thing that we really don't even have to think about, which is nice.

It doesn't actually SMN is one of the only classes that keeps all three spells, sort of like how BLM gets 2 thunder spells (one an aoe, the other single target) because they have different uses. If Ruin was thrown out the tooltip for Ruin Mastery would only mention Ruin III especially because R. Mastery is learned at 62 and Ruin III is learned at 54. If so they would've moved R. Mastery down to 54 with R. III

Also, Maim and Mend already includes pets starting from 3.0. I made the same mistake of thinking that it didn't because I looked at tooltips from the wiki sites instead of the in-game ones.

-_- The wiki is MY bane. That sucks though, I do remember that pets had a couple of settings put into place to nerf damage, or at least that's what I heard. It would be absolutely rotten if they didn't buff pet damage this time around due to the potency nerfs. i could understand if my summons could help shoulder some of that dps weight but without it, spamming 80p, 100p, or even 150p attacks while other classes have weapon skills that hit for around 200p regularly is just booty.

Ruin and Ruin III will still be separate spells. Ruin IV replaces both Ruin and Ruin III's hotbar spot when proced.

About Fester, it does much more damage than Ruin IV so the tooltip is incorrect, it is not 200 potency, it is like something like 350p or 300p.

Fester is 300 potency, if we assume that Painflare's potency is still 200. Since nothing about Painflare should have changed, this is a safe bet. Ruin 1 and Ruin 2 do the same damage despite Ruin 1 saying 80 potency and Ruin 2 saying 100 potency. Ruin 1 and Ruin 2 are both doing about 1/3 of Fester's damage, and half of Painflare, therefore Ruin 1 and Ruin 2 are both 100 potency. This also lines up with the Ruin spell line going from 100 > 150 > 200. Maim and Mend works as it always has, pets just have lower baseline stats that cause them to do less damage per potency than the player would. This extends to Bahamut as well since he also has pet scaling, so his 680 potency Akh Morns are more equivalent to ~540 potency from a player, and a similar reduction from his Shockwave.

I disagree with your statement about the Ruins. I think they nerfed them to make up for the Ruination buff from Tri-Disaster, Contagion, and Devotion from the pets.
