Sightseeing log entry fails to trigger during known period and weather

    UPDATE: Resolved Issue (see below)

    Time: 12:27pm JST 13th May 2017
    Frequency: Ongoing
    World name: Valefor
    Character name: Chicory Windurst
    NPC name: N/A
    Monster name: N/A
    Class/Level: All
    Party or solo: Either
In-game time: 2:45am (current weather in zone: rain)
Area and coordinates: Eastern Thanalan, Wellwick Wood, Thal's Respite X:25.1 Y:14.6

    Steps:
    1. Confirm using menu that entry 18 of Sightseeing Log has not yet been completed.
    2. Check the weather (rain currently, but the behaviour is the same with "showers")
    3. Check the time of day
    4. Walk to the steps in front of the statue.
    5. "You have arrived at a vista" message does *not* appear in the message log.
    6. Entry 18 of the Sightseeing Log cannot be completed.

(Praying does not appear to help.)

Based on the coordinates and current in-game time you listed, it looks like you have the wrong spot and wrong time. It is a very short window; you only have one hour to get it. I do not know what guide you are using but, perhaps, the information is incorrect? I found this one to be particularly helpful since I used it to finish my own log. http://vistas.explorexiv.com/

Seconded. Sounds like you're at the location for spot 57, but that won't trigger until you have it unlocked.

You're both right - thank you. It is No. 57 I've been trying to unlock; the one that allows you to obtain the painting of Thal's Respite. I'd previously checked with the video guide here (which starts from 21) and also this site.

It's some time since I unlocked the initial Sightseeing log, and I hadn't noticed that the number for the rainy weather entry in Eastern Thanalan on my in-game Sightseeing Log wasn't the same as the number for the rainy weather entry in Eastern Thanalan that I was trying to unlock. I also hadn't realized that the numbers start again with the Heavensward Sightseeing Log entries - I'd ended up thinking after the initial 20 ARR entries (which I've yet to complete) the numbers carried on into the Heavensward entries from 21. So I had no idea that anything needed to be unlocked to access No. 57. I thought it was already there.

Frustration at having been trying to complete this entry for ages and knowing that I must be getting something wrong have clearly taken their toll. That said, the ARR Sightseeing Log is obscure -- acknowledged by the introduction of the spheres in Heavensward. I wish they'd gone back and put spheres in for the ARR ones... like No. 55 where you have to jump off a cliff and land on a bush on the very top of a rocky outcrop. I don't know how many play hours it would take for someone to comb the landscape thoroughly enough to find things like that if there wasn't an internet and Google to fall back on, and it always makes me sad to have to resort to searching the web to progress in the game. It shouldn't be necessary.

I hope the moderators here can put this thread somewhere for reference so that anyone else experiencing the same confusion and frustration can find the way forward... and that perhaps having two entries with the same number within the same feature can be avoided in future content.

Thank you again to you both!
