Need or Greed? A Question of Etiquette.

If you're rolling Need for anything other than direct gear upgrades, you're that guy and are part of the problem with humanity these days. Your glamour, seals, desynth, or whatever else falls under greed, simply because all of these things are things you want but don't actually need.

Sooo... lets say we're in a 4 man dungeon, I'm the only tank, obviously, and I want a piece of gear for whatever reason that might be - and I shouldnt be able to roll need on that because its not an upgrade? So that someone who cant potentially even use that item can get it? If you want gear for a specific job: Play that job. Your request isnt less selfish than keeping the need-option. If you dont play the job, you dont get the gear, simple as that. If you play the job you are indeed more entitled to that gear than anyone else.
I could get behind your arguments for seals and maybe even desynth - but seeing how a lot of dungeon-gear has really cool and unique looks and how a lot of people (obviously not you, but thats okay) care a great deal about the appereance of their character that is indeed a need that is as - or maybe even more - important than that "upgrade" you're talking about. Besides: there is always better gear than dungeon-gear, so no one gets srewed when they dont get the chance to roll on an item for a secondary job. A job they're currently not playing, thus not being entiteled first dibs on gear for that. Roll the job - roll need.

Also... what a weird idea to waste ressources on checking the whole inventory for better gear for that class... in addition to that: What happens when I have a fully geared level 60 tank and am now leveling a second one from the ground up? Do I not get to roll need on gear anymore that that tank now needs as an upgrade, because the system says that I have better tank-gear lying around?

I roll Need only on upgrades and potential glamor pieces. That being said, I really don't understand people's aversion to communicating with your group. If you want gear for a class you're not playing, say something. If not, then you're not entitled to anything that drops. I'm not the one who will Need on things that I plan to use for GC seals, but you're not always gonna get lucky with players like me. Besides, if you want it so badly and aren't going to communicate, then you need to be playing as the job you need the gear for. If you're not going to do that, then you need to be ok with not getting the gear. Simple as that.

I roll Need on gear, that I actually intend to use or want as glamour.
I will not roll Need on gear for my own class, if I already have a better piece equiped, I will Greed instead, to give the others a chance at that drop as well.
Greed is for when I don't actually need it but want it for whatever purpose. Example being GC seals (yes I don't roll Need, I have other ways to get seals so I am not dependent on drops), gearing alt classes (if I really need gear for them I bring that class into the run or politely ask at the start) or Gil.
I generally roll Pass if someone asks nicely to get specific gear.

This remembers me the day I was farming Syrcus Tower to get the gears of Scylla (for glamour, I was at a higher level). It dropped after a few tries and when I rolled need I suddenly got insulted and kicked... Why???

Personally i roll need if I can and greed on the rest. I will always pass on gear below lvl 50 and if some at the start of the run w/o anything been drop said that it wanted that specific gear. I will still greed even if the person said wanted nin gear and comes as something else for example.

Really rolling need on an dungeon item that you may need for some reason other than pure upgrade is part of the reason that humanity is bad? Did someone kick your puppy? Was it a mentor?
(If its: "if someone rolls need on a item which they will throw away after the run just to spite a person that needs it" then I would have agreed with you.)

Sorry but since this game has so many ways to gear up and at the same time most dungeon gear will be worse than those options..you cant really come with the argument: "OMG you took it away from someone that now cant progress on the story or play the game anymore!!!" Especially if this is not even the main job of that person.

If someone wants the gear for a certain reason just tell the party about it, most people will pass the item. If nobody is saying something about it and is not really that bad equipped I will roll need on the gear that is for my job. Sorry but ventures and the commando are really eating my seals and the only reason I am often running dungeons is to get that. So I already kinda help out with que times. (And the only ones that will have those need problems are DDs anyway, since the Tank and Healer is only one per dungeon) And if someone is not even on the job of the gear..well why do they deserve it? You only NEED one job to go through the story so you dont NEED to level up another job.

So the only way I can see where this system is bad is with a newcomer on his main job that cant progress anymore because someone else took the gear away that they might have needed to get to the next dungeon. This might be not that nice for that person in the first place but at the same time even that person can just simply buy better gear with the currency. (Maybe that person got the gear, wore it for one dungeon and then threw it away because they bought better gear at Rowenas while the other person that lost the roll might not need the gear for progress but is running this dungeon for the x-amount of time to have that as a long lasting glamour. So who really NEEDS it more?)

Lets not forget that just because you are the badly equipped player in that dungeon does not means that you will certainly lose the roll. Even if someone else can roll need you will still have at least 50% of a chance to get it because most of the time its only one other player that can roll need on it (other than accessories). I just cant see how its really that big of a problem, especially since dungeon gear is outdated and you can simply buy better gear at other places. Its probably way harder to get a certain item for glamour than equipping your own character with that.

Unless someone else is one the same job as me, I need on stuff, either for upgrade, seals, desynth, glamour etc.

If someone is on the same job, and they look like they need an upgrade I consider passing if I don't need the upgrade.

If they're not on the same job, I don't really care XD I deserve loot for the run too!

My rules are as follows need what you can. If you can't need it greed it. And only if you can't need or greed pass. If you want the gear that bad come on a class that can need it. If you can't do that then you don't need it yourself.

People are way too hung up on their own subjective definition of need. Need/Greed is simply a system to give priority on drops to whoever is on the job the gear is intended for, upgrade or not, how it will be used, these things have nothing to do with "need".

It's also incredibly easy to gear up jobs without ever using dungeon drops, so in most cases gear upgrades are not some great need that should take priority over everything else.
