Need or Greed? A Question of Etiquette.

I adhere to proper greed rolls. Seals can be obtained faster in other ways, I'm not gonna deny someone's items needs to gear up. I once was one of 3 ninjas in one of the void arks, and an item I needed dropped. A guy in 270 gear got it. System needs to change cause people aren't, but at least I won't be part of the problem.

I think I read the system was changing a bit. But for now I'm needing unless someone speaks up about a piece they need.

I am in the 'roll as aggressively as the game will allow' camp. I used to greed everything except literal upgrades, but it started taking 2-3 times as many runs to meet my GC Seal needs, so I've adopted the behavior I was seeing from others. There are exception, such as people asking for gear, etc, but barring those, I Need if I can.

I apologize if this is a frequently asked question, I was genuinely curious what the consensus on this was since I just returned to the game and don't remember a whole lot. I started this thread solely out of curiosity, not attempting to cultivate change or complain.

I usually GREED (even when I needed GC seals), and I will only NEED if someone else starts the NEED game.

If you can need on the item and you have a use for it, I don't see any harm at all in rolling need. I will generally roll need on items that I can desynth or things that make for good glamours.

That said, if someone requests a drop for a job they are working on, I generally have no problem at all with passing on stuff.

I really don't think there should be any kind of negative stigma associated with needing over greeding though...unless people already have the item, unequip it, throw it on the floor and then proceed to cast a 'need' roll just to spite others.

i roll Need on everything i want to acually wear or use for glamour, because i actually need the gear :O
i roll Greed on everything i want to sell for Company Seals or Gil, because i am just greedy then.

This is what I do. Everyone else also could also use GC Seals and such, so I don't feel comfortable rolling Need for that - I'd rather let the entire party have a chance at it.

It really depends on what the loot is, what we're running, and who it's with. The general rules I follow are:

Dungeons/Raids
- Need on anything I actually need or want (minions, cards, materials, etc...)
- Greed on gear below my ilvl so it's free for all
- Pass on really low level gear or something someone specifically asks for

Maps
- If running with FC, Need because no one really cares
- If running with randoms, Pass outside of Aquapolis. Need/Greed as instructed by group

Farms
- Need and try to stick around for all 8 of us to get mounts
