    "Cast your lot" selections?

I have run a couple of early dungeons, and I see loot added to the "loot table" and then see a message, "cast your lot" in the middle of my screen for like two seconds, and then nothing.... No screen to select need, greed, or pass. What am I missing?

There will be a button on the lower right hand of your screen for loot rolls

    Thanks T for your reply.

Is there a name for the frame so I can use the HUD option to move it, make it bigger, or is it something the game puts up?

    Certainly didn't see it.

Just brought up Souless and it looks like the frame might be called "notices."

Hopefully it will show up looting options when I next run a dungeon. Since I didn't select any of the options on the 3 runs I have done in the game so far, not sure if I got any loot. LOL

You might very well have gotten some. Normal items(monster parts, dyes, prisms, potions, etc) go straight into your inventory after the game randomly decides who to give them to, and any equipable items go into your armory(even if you arent a class that can equip them) unless its full after the group has a little time to vote. So take a look and see if you have any unfamiliar pieces laying around(you just might!). If everyone else passes and you dont vote then the items may have been awarded to you by default. If the other people wanted/needed stuff and you didnt vote then it should have gone to them.

In general, if you open the loot window(im not sure the name of the ui element, sorry) you should see which gear your party has won, and how long you have left to vote on it(the default is about 5 mins). If its something for your currently equipped class, youll have the option to vote Need(it only looks at your current class so that someone who has everything leveled cant just roll need on everything all the time, meaning you should play the class you want gear for as often as possible to increase your odds). Everyone can always vote Greed or Pass, whether its for their class or not. When you vote the game automatically generates a loot roll(1-100), and they get "published" and compared to the rest of the party when all the votes are in. Need rolls are only compared to other need rolls(automatically beating any greed rolls). If no one cast need then all greed rolls are compared, and anyone who hit pass is automatically eliminated. If your roll won, the item goes straight into your armory/inventory and you can potentially equip it right away to start benefiting before you even leave the dungeon.

    Hope that helps!

Thanks Frizze for your detailed response.

I have played EQ, EQ2, WoW, so loot seems to work similarly to those games. I guess I need to find out the name of the ui element to make sure it is showing up. Hopefully it is "notices". Other than the very brief "cast your lot" message, I don't see anything else.

It's probably is something simple I am missing. Usually is. LoL

If you want to see it without the pressure of being in a dungeon then you can get a friend to send you a party invite or start a ready check. Cancel out of the window without selecting anything and the invite/ready check will show up as a notification ui element that you can click on to bring the window up again. You can also open up the HUD edit mode from the main menu, and look for it there. It's called "Notifications" or "Notices", I forget which. If you havent moved it then it should be in the bottom right of your screen somewhere near the gil display assuming you havent moved that as well. It looks like a horizontal, opaque, solid coloured bar with rounded ends, and the colour changes depending on what the notification is for. E.g. Red for ready checks, blue for party invites, etc.

I think you can make it bigger by selecting it in the HUD display and pressing Ctrl-Home to resize.

Oh, and the notification window only pops up if you don't interact with the treasure chest that was opened. The other way to get the loot window to open is to interact with the chest yourself, even if it has already been opened. Most early dungeons this is easy to do since you have to walk past the chest on the way out of the boss room anyway, but in later dungeons some chests are out of the way so only one player runs and opens it. It's useful to know how to bring up the loot window via the notification popup in times like this so you don't have to go out of your way to get to the chest and slow down the run.
