Vengeance. Raw Intuition. Thrill of Battle. If you're using Defiance then you have access to the most versatile defensive CD in the game, Inner Beast. Dunno how this meme of "WAR has next to no defensive CDs" still exists.
Toss Infuriate, Equilibrium and Holmgang in there. I have plenty of defensive CDs on my WAR, and with the healers I get sometimes in DF roulette...I am well versed in using most of them. =)

well thats if you are tankin in tank stance, the way it looks now is that bloodbath is gone, so if u are in deliverance you only have thrill as a self heal, and would have to be in tank stance to use equilibrium for the heal, and use inner beast. I consider the lost of bloodbath on warrior main tank as a major nerf for mt, I just dont feeel that rampart is gona do as much justice as bloodbath will. Pali on the other hand it seems that with clemency only cost about 1040 mp and yosi had 7080 mp so it seems that pali will have much better self healing than warrior moving forward

One, stances switch. I can tank in Deliverance and if I need a Defiance based CD, I swap to Defiance. You don't currently lose your stacks. Not sure how SB will deal with all that, but I doubt WAR are just getting straight nerfed on defense, while PLD are getting buffed on both offense and defense.well thats if you are tankin in tank stance, the way it looks now is that bloodbath is gone, so if u are in deliverance you only have thrill as a self heal, and would have to be in tank stance to use equilibrium for the heal, and use inner beast. Two, until premade 8/24, most tanking occurs in tank stance, at least in the places where defensive CDs are needed, and then the switch mentioned above occurs. I do stance dance, but in the spots where I know defensive CDs will be needed, chances are good I'll already be in Defiance when the need arises. I'll grant that on those encounters where Deliverance can be used almost the entire time, the defensive stuff is way less, but those fights don't tax defense anyway.
Point being, WAR have plenty of defense if they want it.

Sorry, I meant to imply with Stormblood coming out, some of those might disappear.

Excellent. This was the conversation I wanted to see. Personal Biases are welcome and encouraged.
Currently:
WAR - 5
PLD - 7
DRK - 4
I suspect I'll end up with PLD, since it matches with my WHM / Gatherer Main persona, but I'm still interested in hearing other peoples choices and why.
edit: also, yeah, what's up with the wings? everyone should be behind the boss, yes?
I'll stick with Warrior because, I always enjoyed the damage they dish out but also their overall theme.
Time to unleash that inner beast now in Stormblood!
I'm happy that PLD finally get some love after that whole magic damage ordeal they went through in Heavensward.

War here for me also.
We will see what the changes bring and can decide then.
I will level tanks after my dps though
Paladin because he has been putting time in at the gym and drinking so much Red Bull it literally gave him wings.
Special recognition to Warrior for learning to grab enemies by the collar and seriously punch the bejesus out of them like he's in a Texas road house.
It's hard to say for anyone else. For me, I'm a Paladin, it reflects my personality, and the way I want to play. I want to be the protector, I'm not interested in doing the most damage or anything like that, I am interested in protecting the party and keeping the attention of the enemy.
Once SB arrives and we get a feel for it, we'll know. But it seems to me that the changes to PLD lean very much into that idea of being the protector. So I anticipate that PLD will - as it has always been - be the tank with the least damage potential, but greatest defensive potential. Because of that and the tendency for many players to like being able to do massive damage, I expect that PLD might start off a bit more popular than WAR or DRK, but after a couple of weeks, I anticipate WAR or DRK to emerge as the favorite, probably WAR. But that's OK, it should really be a case of choosing the best tank for the job. PLD never made a good OT, it was always a better single target tank. I don't think that's going to change. but at the same time I also think that Warrior is leaning more heavily on it's ability to cause damage - which looks awesome - loving the whole "so mad your eyes glow" thing.
DRK I think will be similar to WAR (without the eyes...), but I think that it will be kind more non-physical than WAR. I think it's going to go like this; WAR is best for physical defense and damage, DRK is best for non physical defense and damage, and PLD will balance physical and non-physical damage, being best an neither, but will be best defensively against both physical and non-physical threats. Ideally all 3 should have similar aggro generation capability because that is the one thing that each tank truly needs to be equally good at.
All of that said, in 4-player content, all 3 will work great, and in 8 player content a lot will depend on encounter design, I would hope that each dungeon or raid with 8 or more players (and hence 2 or more tanks) will include encounters biased toward physical, non-physical and balanced mechanics to give all 3 tanks the opportunity to shine in the MT role, and all3 to function in the OT role also.
But hey, what do I know, I'm an optimist who plays PLD...
