Like I said in the bigger discussion thread, level boosting potions are practically industry standard now. WoW, LOTRO, swtor, GW2 (although just one included with expansion, can't buy from shop afaik), and Wildstar all have them, just to name a few games. MMORPGs tend to add these after a few years because the barrier to entry becomes too high for new players who want to join their friends, and long time players burn out from doing the same grind multiple times on alts.

I fully understand not liking them, but you aren't required to buy them. You and your friends can keep tackling the game at your own pace and enjoy the ride. This should have no bearing on your experience with the game at all.

What negative effects do you personally anticipate experiencing with the release of these items?

Well, now that I understand you can only buy one, it's not as bad as I thought. It's still walking a line that other MMO's have walked and ended up on the side of Theme Park MMO's and Digital Pez Dispensers rather then high quality content. Too many people crying because they can't experience everything in the first 30 days. I'm sure this game will continue to do fine, but there is a lot of people like me right now searching for the right game. The right game doesn't have ridiculous catch up mechanics and equality for all. Equality works as much in game as it does in real life.

Hate to break it to you, but this game is pretty much the definition of a theme park MMO.

I guess. I had an idea of what a theme park mmo was, and I was wrong. I apologize for this.

You're fine. I'm not trying to marginalize you or disregard your feelings about level boost potions or anything. I was pretty put off when games like WoW added them, but over the years and many games I've played, I've just come to expect it. Square Enix is a business, and level boost potions help make money. More revenue means more shiny things for us to enjoy and longer lifespan of the game. It really does not impact my gameplay experience if other people skip a week of level grind, so no use stressing over it. I hope you and your friends won't give up on the game, as there's still so much more for you to see and experience.

Well, I'm glad that you feel a little better, but I feel as if you haven't answered my question -- or if something you've said is the personal negative effect you anticipate, then it's so minimal that it seems strange to leave the game over. Would you mind clarifying what about the boosts makes your own gaming experience less enjoyable?

Yeah, but this is FFXIV. The problem is the fanatical MMO players want every MMO they play to have similarities. I only play FFXIV I can care less about other MMO's and what they have or had in them. If ppl didn't like the game after 2.0 they should've went back to the one they were playing. The boosts arent the problem because you can STILL play at your own speed. The problem is the ever changin attribute system. IF you actually craft and meld. Which A LOT of players don't and are CRIT HIT crazy casual wannabe hardore players. I figured there was a reason players kept stacking CRIT. Turns out it was to influence this change.
