A question about the mentor system and jump potions

Well, in a sense the game already allows you to circumenvent the trinity-requirement: Level arcanist and you get both the DPS and the healer at 60, even if you only actually play SMN or scholar and just do the quests for the other one. So I dont see a real issue here to be honest - as you point out yourself: There are other requirements in the way of becoming a mentor (and they're more difficult to reach than three classes at 60)

Pretty sure it was mentioned somewhere that even if you use something like the story skip potion, you still need to go back and do the dungeons. You'll still trigger the first time adventurer in those dungeons. The story achievements should be unlocked with the potion, though, since they are tied directly to the story that you pay to skip. Examples: Free Wing Night (MSQ Lady of the Vortex); Warrior of Light (all 2.0 MSQ complete); Floor the Horde (MSQ Heavensward: Litany of Peace); etc.

I sincerely doubt the use of a jump potion will ever exclude players, or characters, from ever becoming a mentor. Unless it's been confirmed elsewhere, we'll just have to wait and see if they will change any of the requirements to become a mentor.

How will a jump potion affect this, you still need to complete 1000 instances and receive 300 commendations, people that pay to skip levels wont have the attention span to even do 1000 instances let alone get 300 commendations.

I already pointed that out in the opening post. Yes, those are bigger requirements than simply leveling is, but it doesn't say you have to have run at least 334 instances as each role or gotten 100 commendations for playing each role. If a level jump potion counts for the mentor requirement, then someone who plays a lot and has already done their 1000 runs but has never tanked, for instance, can just buy their way to PLD 60 to say they're qualified on tanking as well.

The issue doesn't have anything to do with the amount of time or effort needed to qualify. (The instances and commendations requirements take care of that part.) It has to do with the breadth of what you need to have done.

I hadn't thought about that one. You're right. I guess it can already be partially circumvented. That's no reason to make it worse, though, and it would still exacerbate it further to count a potion-leveled job as well. Then someone would be able to spend $25 to meet the trinity requirement having never played anything except DPS, or having never gone past 30 as anything other than healer.

I don't really see how anyone can do a thousand dungeons/raids and not have at least functional knowledge of how tanking and healing works. But if they raise requirement to level 70, that 10 levels is more than enough to figure it out anyway, so I guess we can hope for that.

I'd also argue that the role requirement is more or less pointless given how differently jobs play. For example, I don't think someone with only sch, pld, and drg leveled could give more than basic advice to a new person trying to play ast, drk, or nin. They'd probably say something like: "Cleanse debuffs and use your cards, spam your aoe threat on trash and use tank cooldowns, keep dots up and use dps cooldowns" unless they spent time researching those jobs despite not playing. They'll have even more trouble helping a new person with the new job-specific UI stuff on any jobs they haven't played. S'why we have the Novice Network--It takes a village 'n all.

It can already be completely circumvented. The game does not differentiate between types of mentors. I don't have a tank or DPS at 60, didn't even have 1000 duties completed when I became a mentor, and I have the same qualifications as someone who did the battle route.

And as I said in my previous post, because of the MSQ skip, you will now be able to do this within a few days.

Which goes to further show that the entire mentor system should be removed from existence.
