I main SMN and I am a very proficient player with SCH (I don't raid with it though, but I always do my best to increase my DPS while running content with others as a healer), and it has always bugged me when I'm running dungeons or almost any content and well-geared healers refuse to DPS because of a variety of petty, and useless reasons.

Now that cleric stance is pretty much the next raging strikes, are you guys going to finally DPS like you should, or will spend the next few weeks thinking of excuses to continue not contributing to the party?

You already know the answer for a certain percentage of the playerbase is no. They're perfectly happy keeping the tank 100% topped off at all times and watching Netflix.

Honestly I just hope all of stormblood has so much dmg flowing through even ordinary dungeons that there is no time for DPSing so people can shut up about it.

The only reason healers even have damage moves is so they can function in solo content, let's not repeat Bard from FFXI.

Which btw is a good thing to compare to. The playerbase in FFXI for lack of better word, ruined the playstyles of both summoner and ninja. Summoner, who natively had no healing spells, were typically pigeon-holed into healing through the white mage sub job. Their summons were usually pointless to keep out and drained MP, so instead, they simpled healed.

It's a sad existence.

All right. I keep seeing that assertion thrown around. Show me a source that said the developers themselves said the ONLY reason healers are given increasingly sophisticated and powerful damage spells is for solo content ONLY and were never intended to be used in party combat with a group.

Please, enlighten us.

I guess BRDs aren't suppose to use mana song then, because their DPS! Mana song reduces their DPS!
MNKs use Mantra to help healer? No! MNKs are DPS.
SMNs should never use their battle rez, as that is MP wasted that could've been spent on Ruin III.
Hell - SCHs shouldn't even use adlo or soil! Shields aren't healing - its mitigation! Their healers, not mitigators! Forget Virus, Eye4Eye, they aren't healing abilities!

Seriously, not every little thing about a job has to fit inside a neat, one word category.

I get annoyed by the healers that think they don't have to DPS, but I main healer so the best part is that it doesn't overly affect me much since as long as I'm DPSing it doesn't really matter if other healers do or not! In 4 man especially, doesn't make a difference to me if 95% of healers out there won't DPS, as I do and they aren't in there with me at that moment. Even in 8 man, having both healers pump out the DPS is going to help a lot, but if the other healer refuses at least there's me adding to it.

It's honestly shocking how much DPS you can do. In level 60 dungeons with large trash pulls, I find popping all 4 DOTs from Scholar and spreading them with Bane usually puts me at the top of the DPS numbers if I parse at all (not overall, just for those few moments where all 4 DOTs are up on 5+ targets). Just keeping the DOTs up in Sohm Al Hard the other night I ended the instance just slightly higher in total DPS than the Bard with us, and almost equal to the other DPS. Me just keeping up simple DOTs was the equivalent of having a 3rd DPS with us, so whether people think healers should DPS or not, it's really simple math. Don't DPS if you don't want to, just hope you enjoy spending longer in dungeons that you need to, as you just need to know that your DPS makes a HUGE difference.

I was already stealing hate from more tanks than I care to admit, and it was never due to over healing. The true question is how much damage will I be doing?
