    Guild quests

While I am sure that new quests for each of the guilds is possibly in the works, I have noticed a trend in moving away from them in an effort to focus on company quests. While I really like the company quest line so far, I think it would be a mistake to move away from doing any more guild related quests all together.

I have played this game since release. While I understand that much of the game is being reworked, what little I discovered about each of the guilds in the game during the course of doing the few quests for each of them was enjoyable. My only complaint would be that, while technically I was a member of each guild I was doing quests for, I never really felt like I was member of any of them in a believable way. I always felt like an adventurer doing odd jobs on the outside looking in.

What I would like to see, and what I think many other players would enjoy seeing, is more guild specific quests that take us further into the lore and history of each guild. If my favorite job in the game is gladiator, why not have quest lines set up for me that make me feel like one. Maybe offer one or two skills that are gladiator specific that, once I earn them, I can't get similar ones for the other jobs. The system in question would look something like this:

I have multiple combat jobs leveled, but (and this is only an example) my favorite class is Lancer. Starting at level 40, a line of quests begin at each guild that, once completed at one guild, cannont be started at any of the others. Rewards for doing these quests lines include not only some killer cutscenes (starring the player of course) but maybe class specific gear and skills that can't be earned for any other class once undertaken. I think its a safe assumption that each of us has one class in the game we favor maybe a little more than the others. I know I am just spit-balling here but I really want to feel like a member of my favorite guild, and not just some errand boy doing them favors all the time for points we no longer need. The new achievement system coming in 1.20 would be a great launching point for this sort of system. Once you pick your favorite guild and have finished all available quests, you could then gain access to a seperate achievement list thats specific for that guild.

On a side note, I have been playing a lot of Skyrim lately, and I really love the way that game makes you feel like a member of the guild you join instead of an outsider doing oddjobs. While I understand its a different style of game, I think FFXIV could really take a cue from this and make our gladiators, archers, Lancers, ect. feel like actual members of their favorite guild. As it stands now we can each do every quest in every guild, which is fine but, I don't really feel like a "member" of any of them. I would love to hear some feedback on ideas like this and hopefullly get enough people envolved in the conversation to get SE's attention. Suggestions?

I think the main issue with this is that we are all Adventurers who by nature can't seem to be "tied down" to any one guild or city. If you consider that to be the case, then it makes sense the guilds and townsfolk wouldn't treat us as members but more as outsiders. Don't get me wrong, I'd love to be more included in a particular element of the city or a guild, but I can at least role-play this.

So, let's say for a moment SE does decide to implement something like this. It ought to work similar to how the grand companies work, with promotions, and special jobs that can't be trusted to "outsiders". I would like the option to join multiple guilds though, but perhaps, limit how far you can rise in a particular guild? Maybe that last part is technically already available, a la the current guild quests... (sorry rambling thoughts...) You actually do get a sense for what the guild stands for by the Level 20, 30, 36 quests now.
