I can see using story and level jump potions for an alt character, but anyone who starts off the game using them for their main character is going to lose out on the whole point of the entire game and would just be stuck at the end with no clue what's going on.

It's definitely not something that should be encouraged for new players, which is what bundling them together with the game would do. If you simply gave people the potions because they got the game, they'd end up using them just because they're there, and not because they have any reason to want them. Too many players would destroy their game that way.

Go ahead and put them up in the MogStation for people who know the game well enough to know they want that on their next alt, but don't market them to newcomers for whom the potions would be a detriment to their game rather than a boost to it.

The point is based on work. Not if an item was available. Part of the Justification originally given, is new players find the game has to much work to enter new content. Also remember this dev team decided to double dip the cash shop by splitting level and game progression potions. Which makes it easier to discuss because it doesn't cover other aspects of the game.

Lets try to visualize a graph. If 14 requires you to do (random number) 100 quests to get into Stormblood. WoW requires you to do one, should WoW have a potion? Since same amount of time is required to level. You keep moving down the graph the quest side for 14 keeps growing since they don't know how to split quest chains. WoW is at a couple quest for the next expansion 14 is at 200. WoW decides not to split xp/quest into two potions. The work required from the quests is astronomical if leveling is close to the same spread across the expansions. Hopefully you can kind of visualize what I am getting at. With leveling not part of the jump the work load is quite large and should be considered part of the expansion.

Honestly I don't think the level Jump potion is really necessary yet at this point of the games life. I do think the story jump potion might have been worth adding to Stormblood. Getting to 60 isn't usually the hard part for new players. Its getting through the whole MSQ. Also the lvl jump potion really has inadequate support for helping people understand how their job functions. There is no real guide without looking up third parties. I can easily see someone who is new to the game getting overwhelmed by the number of buttons they have and no clear indication how and in which order to use them. Really, if they are going with a lvl jump potion they probably need to have some form of tutorial for newer players.

Totally agree with this, I hope they have something prepared. Otherwise, you'll have a bunch of new level 60's who are lost and have no idea what to do with their jobs. WoW does a pretty descent job with this, hopefully FF14 took notes.

i don't see how new player has to spend $120 to get into the game when SB release, I mean sure if they want skip everything in ARR and HW and just go straight to SB and do "end game" stuff but unless they going to be a raider end game is not all that amusing. I like crafting and gathering and the social aspect of the game it definitely not this end game content that everyone wants to rush to keeping me around.
