    Suggestion about jump potions

In order to make the game more accessible for new players, how about including a story and job jump potion with the purchase of Stormblood? This would be in line with what WoW does when you purchase a new expansion pack. Otherwise, a new player is looking at spending about $120 to get into the game for the first time.

Blasphemer. Don't you take away the hard earned dollars of SE. They need every penny to fly around the world and put on promotions. The current mogstation is a place of awesomeness, if they can't afford it they should get a real job.

I am sure I missed some. This is the wrong community to question about SE practices in relation to pretty much everything else in the world.

↓↓↓ case in point, no wrong.

Wow is like 10 years ahead of SE though, they have a reason to put said potion into their expansion. XIV isn't at a point where it needs to encourage new players to enter by giving them a free potion/skip book to partake in the new expansion.

It is just being put there as an option for those who may desire to jump ahead and play from the expansion.

Honestly if there is one fault I find with the potions is that they did ARR=18 and HW=24(think my prices are off) but the point is ARR only works for ARR but HW works for both, they should of at least allowed an option to purchase an HW only skip for the same price since people going through ARR/completed it may want to bypass HW but at the cost it's just not worth it.

No make them pay the 50$ to jump both job and story. Don't bundle it

Only if their plan to get into the game for the first time includes jumping straight to the current expansion, and that's only going to apply to a certain portion of those coming in completely new.

Is bundling it a good idea? Yes it is.

The right time to bundle it with the purchase though is a more complex question. I don't know that less than four years in is the right time for that (WoW didn't add theirs at all until the 10 year mark, so FFXIV is kind of a bit early to the party on offering them at all imo).

Also I'd recommend ignoring trolls whose only non-contribution to the discussion involves mocking those with a different opinion.

Let us not cover the level potion just the story portion quest needed to get to Northrend

Hero's Call Northrend! Just a quest and a couple NPC's

    Quest to get to Shirogane

    A realm Reborn

    A Realm Awoken

    Through the Maelstrom

    Defenders of Eorzea

    Dreams of Ice

    Before the Fall

    Heavensward

As Goes Light so Goes Darkness

    The Gears of Change

    Revenge of the Horde

    Soul Surrender

    The Far Edge of Fate

I am noticing a little bit of difference in the amount of work between the two. I don't even bother to count how many quests each one has to get to the next one.

I personally think that FFXIV is one of if not the best MMO out there. Trying to talk a new player into trying out Stormblood would be a lot easier if they did some sort of bundle is all.

At that point there was no available skip, if you wanted to get to Northrend you either ran countless dungeons or quested through a variety of zones with no heirlooms to boost you all the way to level 68. The developers wouldn't decide that all that should be skippable as an option for another 6 years, and decided tacking it on to the expansion (while bumping the price up $10 as a consequence) was good for the game at that point.

And that's my point - bundling with the game should be a thing, but choosing the right time to do it is a complicated question with a highly subjective answer (not all games are at the same point in their overall life cycle as a game at the same age milestones, and doing it one way just because another MMO did it that way is a recipe for trouble). Bundling skip potions with the second expansion less than four years into the game is arguably not the right time to include it with the purchase of the game.

Six years in with expansion number three? Good time to start doing so. Eight years in at expansion number four? A no brainer if they haven't bundled it already.

But we were past story skip potion at 2.5. The amount of work at the end of 2.5 is probably greater then any decade old MMO. So if they didn't bundle both, the story skip should almost be mandatory. That is why I said not to cover the level potion.

I can see using story and level jump potions for an alt character, but anyone who starts off the game using them for their main character is going to lose out on the whole point of the entire game and would just be stuck at the end with no clue what's going on.

It's definitely not something that should be encouraged for new players, which is what bundling them together with the game would do. If you simply gave people the potions because they got the game, they'd end up using them just because they're there, and not because they have any reason to want them. Too many players would destroy their game that way.

Go ahead and put them up in the MogStation for people who know the game well enough to know they want that on their next alt, but don't market them to newcomers for whom the potions would be a detriment to their game rather than a boost to it.
