I don't think it will necessarily effect pugging at all. You are just as capable of strategizing with your group mates in a pug as you are in a static. That may not happen of course... but I think that is a people problem rather than an inherant flaw in the new system.

If SCH keeps Aetherflow as is, then Lucid Dream is an optional (and likely useless) ability for them freeing up a pick. WHM and AST absolutely need this... and SCH will too if they lose mp recovery via Aetherflow. SCH is already guaranteed losing mp recovery from Drain (which is becoming a caster dps role skill).
Shroud of Saints & Luminous Aether also lower enmity. Aetherflow does not. Aetherflow is used for more than just MP regain on SCH so it is likely not going anywhere, though it might change(I honestly doubt it).
the skills SCH uses that require Aetherflow are
these first 2 are Arcainist Skills(but you probably knew that)
    Energy Drain
    Bane
    these are SCH only skills
Lustrate(though this is probably going away)
    Sacred Soil
    Indomidability

In some fights Lucid Dream will come in handy on SCH due to lowering enmity. Honestly I dont see this skill as a must have though. Think about what happens if you get enough enmity to get aggro and keep getting hit. As long as your fairie is out she goes nuts trying to keep you healed, this redirects enmity to her.

Oooh, you may be on to something. Add esuna to the "no" list because heal through that shit and swiftcast because if you are healing all the time you have enough time to hardcast!!

Esuna is a must have. There are a number of places you will need it. The fact some duties doesn't require it or dispellable debuffs are not a big deal, doesn't means the skill is unneeded.

Some encounters have even scripted the healers must use it. See the bomb debuff in labyrinth, or the silence trap in potd, as examples.

Even in Cutter's cry, the worm's debuff if not dispelled is a pain to heal, when you do that duty in your level 38 gear. Feel bad for the sch that goes there at 39 and have his dispel locked because it is a lv 40 skill. Dunno if that was nerfed or we just got overgeard, 'tho. The first times I were there, that thing were eating 20% hp off per tick.

The two I really don't get are Protect and Esuna. Those "types" of spells should be on any healer to begin with. Not chosen from a list.

Then put them on all your healers, problem solved.

You are in a 8 man party and healer #2 cast Protect
Do you really need Protect too, or would you equip something else?

If I recall I thought the idea was simplification , if Im runnin 5 or more instances in a day do I really want to change my abilities 5 timers per instance not really. So what your sayin actually defeats the purpose of what SE set out to do , do you think those players that dont even read tool tips are gona even attempt to switch these out. Aree that new tank or healer that bought a jump potion and got to level 60 u think they gona be switchin their stuff out all the time not really. I actually prefer to have my skills there and not have to worry about changing them.

Some of it, the other idea was to pull out abilities that were similar or served around the same purpose and put them in cross role so they could make room for additional abilities that increased job identity without increasing the amount of buttons.

They took out the throughput actions (Raging Strikes, Internal Release, Blood for Blood) and pure damage actions (Aero, Blizzard II) because let's be honest people would take those and replaced them with utilities that could be situational but not make or break if you don't have it. The only exception being Esuna since sometimes you really do need it. (I don't agree that Esuna should be cross-class). Some other stuff also got the axe that don't fall under those categories but I wouldn't be surprised if the main jobs that carried them still have them.

Some people are just going to take 5 and call it a day. Others will have macros that change them.
