AOE Spells - Can they be renamed? "Thunderga" rater then II and IV?

What in particular is FF7-ish? I don't know much about it. We do have holy and meteor which wasn't a thing in FF7. The gold saucer I guess? I wouldn't say a mini-game area is super iconic though.

The localization for VII used numbers, but the Japanese also used the ra-ga thing.

While it never really bothered me, it definitely was a small topic to think about lol. At first, I thought it was because they were going to follow XI naming conventions to imply the type of spell. E.G. Fire (any number tier) represents single target and -ga/-ra/-ja represents AoE. Given how that clearly wasn't the case, it just seemed a little odd to not go traditional. I suppose it came down to how they might have contemplated the idea that they could introduce new tiers that go beyond the trio of -ga/-ra/-ja and that they could reserve those for very specific situations. Like a boss/NPC with Thundaga, an NPC-only spell.

-ga strictly for aoes was only a thing in XI, all other games used -ra -ga -ja for the II III and IV version of a spell regardless if it hit more than 1 target or not.

If they followed the traditional naming you'd have a thundara that is an aoe and a stonera (stonra) or cura that is single target, which means you're not fixing anything.

If anyone is confused about skills they should try reading skill tooltips.
