I love how "clean" the Samurai is. I used to play with limited effects, because I didn't like the flashy moves. Only reason I switched back to full effects, was because I couldn't see the AoE skills.

Agreed. Samurai is not about being flashy, but being so sharp you didn't even know you were cut!
THAT is what Samurai means! Leave flashy magic and moves to the new awesome Paladin set!
On second thought, I wouldn't mind the spender skills' animations reaching a bit further. If anything, I'd gladly trade the ground lines for just a bit more reach, detail, and style (without opaque effects) in the main blows. Keep it clean, but let it be a bit more visible, so to speak. I love how its a bit more subtle, but I do honestly think it could do that even better.
...I've looped the Job Actions vid way too many times by now...
I'm pretty happy with how simple they are. too much flash sometimes, cant see whats going on. I think they wanted to show off the actual animations of the weapon for SAM.
I like everything I saw so far and if that's it, it's... fine. I'm just hoping there's more variety? In the video it's 10-12 different skills, all mostly slashes with 2 draw skills and 1 charge skill, all standing in one place, and with the artifact armor you can't see footwork. And the LB3 is... even more slashes.
Do we get a gap closer?
Do we stun our opponents with our hilt or with our sheaths?
What about an oGCD finisher that activates below 20% where you dash through the enemy to finish them off? (Samurai duel style)
If the AF is loosely based on Auron, what about something like his Shooting Star overdrive that would function as a knockback?
Not all of those being something I want to see, necessarily, but the point being that it would be something that's not JUST slashes. I don't necessarily need flashy, but I would like to see more variety.
Kind of unfair to compare anything to RDM. It was super duper flashy. SAM had an elegance to it though. Hard hitting and beautiful (that sounds a bit pretentious but whatever lol).
All the melees get Leg Sweep as a stun now right so I imagine SAM does too. And they all have a gap closer so I'm sure they will as well.I like everything I saw so far and if that's it, it's... fine. I do hope they do have an Assassinate type ability.
They do. Per a kind individual on the FFXIV Reddit translating the tooltips:Kind of unfair to compare anything to RDM. It was super duper flashy. SAM had an elegance to it though. Hard hitting and beautiful (that sounds a bit pretentious but whatever lol).

- Ageha ("鳳蝶" Phoenix Butterfly), attack ability, 60s recast, grants 15 Kenki, seems to activate when target's HP is <20%.
