Think about it like this, in every Final Fantasy game there is a "healer" type class am i right? they have healing skills like cure, cura and curaga yet they also have holy and other dps like skills. It sticks to the lore that a healer will dps here and there. While i myself do not heal I would like to think that just sitting in a dungeon or at a boss with nothing to do would drive me crazy lol Many others brought it up, but how did you get to level cap? carried by tanks and dps? at some point this has to stop.

Some of the things I'm seeing here are...troubling.

First, this thread was based on a change that will not happen for a month. Second, most folks arent saying 'dps or get out'. Folks are saying 'dps please if you have time'. Come 4.0 healers wont have to choose between crippling our ability to heal to do damage and neutering our ability to dps to keep healing. Most people in this thread are not asking folks to change their playstyle now but to consider dps after this change in the future when its easier and less stressful.

You don't "carry your weight" playing that way, and intentionally ignoring your ability to contribute more to the group because you want to be a pure healer is extremely selfish.
To this and everyone other post that replied, That's exactly right, and that's why I'm not playing healer anymore.

If the tank is getting smacked around like a wet noodle, guess who isn't DPSing.

If you don't like it, enjoy your wait for a healer, I won't have to wait long.

If thats happening nobody expects you to dps. We would like it to happen only if everyone is doing well and your only other option examining the wallpaper.

No one's asking you to dps if you have a paper tank.

I love how the anti-dps folks always bring up exaggerated extremes like it's every duty finder scenario.

I tank and heal every single day in duty finder, with my static and FC mates and without them. Very, very rarely is a party bad enough in duty finder that I have zero room to dps. Even when a tank over pulls in a leveling dungeon without a tank stance (has happened to me) there's usually room at, say, the end of the pull when only a few mobs are left.

NO ONE IS ASKING YOU TO DPS WHEN YOU DON'T HAVE TIME, TOO MUCH DAMAGE IS GOING OUT, OR YOU STRAIGHT UP DON'T FEEL COMFORTABLE.

If you won't dps when there's literally nothing going on, you're being straight up lazy, so just own it. Then maybe we can give this a rest.

I'm just gonna say this here: If I ever get kicked for not DPSing as a healer, (which I usually do, just depends), I will never do so in a dungeon ever again.

E4E, virus, disable, stoneskin and so on don't heal, so why do healers use them? Because the job of a healer is to heal and mitigate damage. Killing stuff faster is a form of mitigation.

Can we please stop with the "healers are watching Netflix" BS? Healing requires attention. We don't need to be measuring people's contribution with button presses.

While I generally toss out plenty of dps in 4-man dungeons, I find myself barely doing any damage in 8 or 24-mans - even when I'm not actively healing. And it's not because I'm being lazy and "watching Netflix". I'm keeping an anxious eye on boss mechanics and watching where players are positioned (especially chaotic in the 24-man raids), constantly repositioning myself so that I can both catch everyone in my buffs and heals (I main AST) AND be ready to avoid telegraphs. I don't run with a static, so I'm constantly anticipating unpredictable mistakes and getting myself into a position where I can correct them. While this isn't particularly challenging (especially compared to the content I do seriously raid in - WildStar), it does require attention, and IMO attentiveness on the healer's part is just as important as damn button presses.

[edit] Just... really. "You're not pressing enough buttons!" strikes me as an absolutely absurd metric for contribution - especially as applied to a role that, by its nature, requires the player to pay attention to player health bars.

Couldnt agree more man, unfortunately this community has become very toxic with dps and squeezing every last drop, and it pushes newcomers away. My friend tried to play a healer and was met with this kind of toxic mentality I cant for the life of me convince him to come back and try again.
