Extra HPS does nothing for a group-- you can't "overheal" people at max HP. Extra DPS goes quite a bit further especially since with an AST you have that option, with a WHM you don't.I solo healed Titan EX within the first week of it's release, cure 3 was absolutely required.

Basically, what would you like? Damage and added mitigation, or overhealing? That's the choice you make between WHM and AST right now.




In the case of the Titan EX solo heal, it enabled us to run a 2/1/5 and eventually 1/1/6 with some practice. AST's inability to catch up with the slightest mistake in early Gordias showed just how finely tuned it's HPS was as well. In both these cases, the extra HPS achieved something.
It's less useful in optimal play, no one with any sense is going to dispute that. But to say it's utterly worthless is shortsighted, in less optimal play it makes healing easier. It's an option and an alternative route even if it might not be an especially decent one at the moment, this is something this game doesn't offer nearly enough off imo.
And on the Assize thing, I'm pretty confident that we will see the opposite and that it's going to be a key ability of WHMs. It's raw potency throughput personified and suits the 'pure healer' ethos that SE are preaching. It's going to be very powerful come 4.0 imo.

I won't disagree with WHMs extra healing being a safety net for fights. It definitely is. But see, that limits WHMs main benefit solely to content that you're not only at the min ilv for, but that you're still progressing in. After you have better gear and a decent hang of the fight, WHMs usefulness as a safety net is over. So at best WHM would have a month after new content release, then it's back to the bench for 3-4 months or so, which is ridiculous.
As for Assize. Well, I sure do hope it's power is emphasized rather than nerfed. But looking at WHMs AOE track record...




Have faith imo. Right or wrong, WHM is one of the most iconic FF jobs out there, it's going to get some cool toys <3

At the end of the day, this. WHM is almost guaranteed at least to be a bit flashy and fun, and if it ends up underperforming in 4.0 like AST did at the beginning of 3.x, we will likely see adjustments sooner rather than later.
