I would like to see this, but we don't have any word. If they don't do it, hopefully they, or one of us will white a UI tool that works with what is already out there.
As for PS3, I think it's a good call in some respects. Here's hoping![]()

Well, auto-translate is somewhat complicated to have in voice chat...but if they add a voice decoder system (like those old obes that PCs have since like 20 years ago) they can just write at text log what is said, having both spoken and writen version of what you said...and with the writen version you do can use auto-translate on.
But still, i wouldn't expect auto-translate there...it would be such an unecessary processing IMO...just easier letting the dude type the text if an auto-translate is needed.

I am taking the thread seriously and having fun with it. Because I disagree doen't mean I can't add flavor to it. I think I posted very maturely. The question would be: Did you?Marking a topic for death shows how immature your taking the OP's topic. this is a valid question that should be taken seriously, especially with a console launch coming up in the far distance... Voice chat will be necessary in a PS3 game, and I believe Square knows that.
So stop trolling the OP and take this topic seriously.
I do my best even though you won't see much of my post as "trolling". Label me as you will but one thing still lays true: I LOVE YOU GUYS! (much love) ^_^ v

Holy Christ, some of the reasoning to shoot this feature down is ridiculous. This game has, by far, the most backwards and non-progressive user base I've ever had the displeasure of being part of.

Ahh, I saw your serious response far down in the forums. no worries a bit of flavor is completely ok, I think the red from your original post set the bull off inside of me ^^I am taking the thread seriously and having fun with it. Merry Christmas everyone =)
Back To business:
I agree, if Square can develop a in-game system that works good then people will use it! The thing with WoW, is that it never really worked well... But that's to be expected to have mixed reviews on a useful feature.
What I think is the issue with a voice chat system, is that none of the content really needs it... Especially with the issues this game suffers from; such as server lag, animation locks during fights and such... To really utilize a voice chat system the game has to be extremely responsive to user input, which right now it isn't. Maybe 2.0?

When add on support comes. Hopefully someone will bring on an in game app for Ventrilo/Skype. I'd rather Square not bring in voice chat in this game, due to the game harboring multiple language speakers in one place. Auto-translate should suffice for that, otherwise just get a group mumble server or something, if you don't want to pay for Vent.
This is the worst line of reasoning because you can turn it around and use it for practically anything that would be used differently from culture to culture. How about no addons, because people might not develop them to be multilingual? How about they take out regular chat and only give us canned, auto-translated messages, since some people don't type in all 4 languages? How about they take out the forums because I haven't translated this post into Japanese, German and French?

It was just my reasoning, settle down. The game is not nearly as diversed in game as the forums are. Add-ons usually cater to the people of that region. Even then, add ons are not region specific, if they want a certain add on they're free to use it. It's just in a forein language. It's a bit asinine to join a voice chat with people who don't speak the same language as you. Have you ever tried to hold a discussion with someone who spoke only of a language that you cannot speak? It's rather hard to convey what you're trying to explain. ESPECIALLY in a game like FFXIV.This is the worst line of reasoning because you can turn it around and use it for practically anything that would be used differently from culture to culture. How about no addons, because people might not develop them to be multilingual? Considering that a lot of people would rather talk than type the whole time. I don't see why people complain about somethign like this. As of now, you can't have XIV fullscreen if you need to use voice chat because Alt+Tab doesn't work and all that crap.
It's like they give dumb reasons why this couldn't work. I mean the language barrier is another dumb reason, didn't they say they wanted the servers for different languages? It could work out, it's just people don't want to go forward.
