Selling/Buying clears, loot, mounts and titles.

This is not a new thing to FFXIV nor it is against the rules as long as real life currencies are not involved.

I have two question regarding this topic:
1 - Are you against selling content to other players? Why?
2 - Why do you think people are buying clears, loot, etc..?

    1. I don't care what other players do, I don't pay their sub therefore I'm not against anything.
    2. People have jobs or they are not very good (or both) and would rather pay to win (if you call pixels winning).

Even if someone is against people selling runs, what are they going to do about it? huff and puff until they are blue in the face?

Personally, I don't approve of the practice. Because I am not someone who thinks very highly of those who pay for carries, and I think even less of those who sell carries. However, I can't stop the content sellers, nor the people who buy from them. As much as I dislike them, don't see much point in throwing a huge fuss over them.

I sure as heck do not like the idea of people who bought clears/carries joining in on my farm PFs though. I don't have time to carry people when I'm trying to farm content, and I refuse to carry people in general. I'm patient with people who are learning and willing to learn, even if it's a slow process. But I do not and will not carry people. Pull your own weight, or leave. Please.

As for why people buy clears, I think it's probably because they know they won't be able to get a clear otherwise, so they buy one rather than try to earn one. Or perhaps that's just me being cynical.

    1. I wouldn't do it myself, nor would I sell clears. However my opinion..

If people pay others to clear content FOR them, then I don't really understand why they even bother playing a game. Just like my take on jump potions (not against them, but don't understand why you would).. If you pay for a game, and pay monthly for a subscription to said game, wouldn't you want to "play" said game, and not just pay other people to play it for you?

It's like buying a new game, starting it, then wanting to jump to the final boss straight away.

    2. There are three reasons that come to mind -
    a) The "I want it NOW" mentality.
    b) Genuine players who don't actually want to pay for a carry, but want to pay for being in a party with other "competent" players (or players that know the fight) in order to gaurentee a clear/farm/whatever.
    c) Players who cannot be bothered to form a learning party and learn the content but want the rewards.

I've bought a Nidhogg EX run before, mostly to try to learn part of the fight from what I saw. Mostly because of the mentality of players demanding no bonus and EXP, even in training parties people are unforgiving, and it seems to be one of the only ways to get any experience.

I've bought a clear once and it was born from frustration. Please note that the clear wasn't even for me, it was for my husband and the fight was Titan Extreme. This was back when Titan was a gate getting into Ifrit EX- as well as Thornmarch and Leviathan EX for requiring the completion of Ifrit EX. I basically got tired of the community failing to do mechanics correctly for months, trying to get him a clear so we could do the other primals.

It was funny, too. He still managed to not fall off while out DPSing the people "carrying" him through the trial. Well, it didn't matter in the end, my purse with a little lighter but at least we could progress (I had already cleared Titan EX on a random DF while he was at work).

I've also had the pleasant experience of selling clears. Not everyone that buys clears suck. There are definitely some that do, but some people buy them because they don't want to have to deal with more than the required amount of RNG already involved. We had a few people that bought runs simply so they could take all the drops and then be done. Others bought ponies or lanners (before the tokens were put in place). Others do it for the same reason I bought a Titan EX clear; they simply got tired of parties failing to do the fight correctly.

The last reason I know for people buying clears was for the story. Mainly from people who didn't have the time to raid, or had horrible ping and simply couldn't raid. This was mostly back in the Coil era, when it was attached to the main story. They wanted to know what happened, but circumstances prevented them from raiding. Some of these customers didn't even take drops.

i have bought my titan hm kill for the relic back in 2013. it was nearly impossible to dodge his attacks with the EU servers placed in Canada plus a horrible hardware lag on my end caused by my old PS3.

i am not against selling kills per se, but what i dislike are the prices, they are way too high. people who don't have the time to proper learn and clear the fights don't have time to get that many Gil to pay for the kills. there are some mega-crafters maybe, but the most people will buy the Gil for real money. kill selling is one of the biggest causes for RMT. and yes, the kill sellers know exactly where the Gil is coming from.

Being a mercenary basically amounts to selling a service, putting your time and skill at the client's disposal. This is no different from paying a skilled crafter for an HQ 4 stars gear set.

The only problem I have with it is that prices go up really quickly when you talk about clears, and this motivates a bunch of people to just buy the gil they need. I could say this is RMT with more steps involved, but at the end of the day the people who sell clears can't be accounted responsible for how their clients get their money.

Answer C is the biggest reason people buy clears in raids from many mmos. There are some people I used to know of the crafting variety, hoarding enough money to cover several characters over, buying clears then using whatever salvageable crafting material from raids to create items to sell...at a price tripling the raid runs.

    Merchants are scary people >.<

I cant be against it because I have bought some thordan ex runs like 7-8 months before. Also, I have partcipated in some minor sales before.

I didnt buy the actual thordan ex clear though, I already had that. But at that time, I found that there were hardly any parties for it,
and IF there were, people would constantly wipe and disband after 2-3 attempts.

I for one, am however very impatient sometimes when I want something. I really wanted the thordan bird
and I knew I wouldnt be getting it that way back then. I also wasnt keen on making my own PF (nowadays, I would consider it,but back then...nope).
So I bought 5 runs of thordan ex, played mechanics properly throughout the fight, got bird on the first run, sent a close friend of mine in and
had him get another bird at 5th run. Was lovely. So in my case, I really just bought the time of 7 other people rather than paying to get carried.
    Nothing wrong with this.

Getting carried through a clear and THEN joining a PF without any proper knowledge is my only concern.
