I'm glad SE decided to redo the maps in 2.0, because I hate how a lot of them are designed...

    - the Black Shroud feels like a series of trenches or a giant spider web instead of a large forest

    - areas don't transition into each other well. One minute I'm in a barren desert wasteland, and then in zone into a thick forest teeming with life? How does that work??

    - copy/pasta'd terrain in multiple areas

    - always a narrow, tapered path between areas

    - certain areas with obscure nodes and high-level enemies aren't even used for anything important

    Etc., etc.

Yea. At the very least they could have thrown up a static picture of how my character supposedly went from Thanalan to the Black Shroud.

I thought Pag'than was a beastman stronghold, quite possible that they will add that later. I've noticed some of the gaps, I was wondering if they'd close them up in 2.0

The journal entry for the "Lord Errant" main scenario quest

After a conversation with [NPC] at the Gold Court, the two of you decide to assist Lady Minfilia in bringing the beast tribes to your side by traveling to the Amalj'aa stronghold in Paglth'an and using the Echo to hold your own negotiations with the tribe elders.

You rendezvous with [NPC] at the entrance to Paglth'an and learn that two sylphs also intent on holding audience with the Amalj'aa elders are with your Path companion According to the sylphs, one of the Paragons may also be within the stronghold. Proceed into the area to try and find someone who will listen to your request.
This suggest that Paglth'an does house the Amalj'aa beastman city. Who knows what else exists there.
It is clear that at least one entrance to it exists near Broken Water... Also there is a gate and what appears to be a zone line behind flamefist.... Suggesting that Zahar'ak is another entrance to Paglth'an
I actually like lore topics like this... We just have to not be doucheb'ags about it.... and keep it civ'il
    that is a'll

in all seriousness... I don't know how far north it reaches... being that the region (Thanalan) is full of mountains and valleys, There could be a natural wall separating it from the path taken between Shroud and THanalan

the only other way to explain it is that Thanalan to Shroud is a direct mountainous route that places you out at southwestern edge of the Shroud. Which I guess would make sense as there are mountains, and no plains in sight, but how the path places you near tranquil which is pretty much a straight shot south from gridania. Still pretty minor, i'd like to see Paglthan

I just wanted to take the time to thank you for posting an actual good and thought out OP for the developers to look at. I don't see it as criticism at all. Well done man, I hope they take into account the fact that some of us don't blindly accept the map layout the way it is when they redo the geography. I always thought the transition from Thanalan to The Black SHroud was a little weak.

Its not that the area name in particular is the problem. Like I've said before and some other posters have reitterated, when the time comes for the new maps, I would just like them to make sense and link up appropriately, without glaringly obvious "worm hole zones" (as I will coin it from here on out for continuity) through out the zone.

Also when redoing the zones, like mentioned in another post by another poster, fix the boat ride (i don't really care about the water graphics, although they need a change as well) but at least let us see the southern tip of the La Noscea Region as we pass it. As it stands now, we just magically appears on the WESTERN side of the island without ever really passing by the island itself.

Perhaps Paglth'an would have been a savanna of some sort. Something to logically connect a lush forest with a wasteland.

Who knows. I can't find any lore on it so it's all up in the air to me.
