Low your GPU frequency or get better airflow / cooling solution . The error will show up when your GPU temperature goes up to 80°c and above(high end GPU).

So i fixed it for me with changing some settings in radeon settings so it can maybe help you if you guys have amd graphics cards. So for first as i had the crashes: aa-mode: use application settings
aa-method: multisampling morph.-filtering: off af-mode: use application settings tf-quality: standard surface format optimization: on v-sync: off unless... opengl-triple: off shader-cache: amd optimized
tesselation-mode: amd optimized power-efficiency: off framerate not limited. So with this settings i got this error every freaking 10 minutes. I turned surface format optimization and shader-cache off
and changed tesselation mode to use application settings, played for a few hours now didn´t get a single crash. Don´t know what of this three options was the problem but don´t wanna try out though xD
Cuz you're lowing the workload of your GPU ,eventually the temperatures goes down .
It's a simple temperature issue .

GayFox, temperature is definitely not the issue. My card stays at or below 75C always, the problem still occurs. Additionally, if temperatures were the issue, I'd expect to see similar crashes in, say, Overwatch, which I run on Ultra with no hiccups, or when I stress the GPU with Furmark.
You're wrong . It's dx11 error with FFXIV code does not necessary means that occurr with other games .
Which is you card ? I specifically said 80°c for high end gpu . 3rd party manufacturer cards like mine has more tolerance , maybe yours support less than mine.
Try to low your temps as much as you can .

Its not a temperature issue...
i can assure you that.......
i monitoring this stuff all day, and the error even happens when the gpu is almost ice cold, on the other side i played for hours sometimes with it being hot as fuck....

Just to add another set of information to this problem, I also have it occurring randomly. For the majority of cases, it will happen without warning: in a settlement, at dungeon bosses, checking my retainer ... the list goes on. As someone else mentioned, it started to happen around the release of the last major patch. I'm honestly not sure what else we can do to fix it.
There is one single occasion where the error wasn't random and that's the firebird cutscene in Idyllshire, when you're talking to the Wandering Minstrel. When I tried to hand in this quest it would crash at the exact same point, three times in a row. Eventually just gave up and had to skip the cutscene, then went to get my firebird whistle and forgot about it.
Another thing to note is that after I get the error, the AMD Control Centre / Catalyst software will also crash and has to be reloaded. This leads me to believe it's a software issue and there's some kind of conflict between the drivers and FFXIV itself. I run every other game on this system at maximum or ultra settings and this is the only one I have an issue with.
We really need a fix from whoever's responsible because I don't want to be dodging this issue in Stormblood. Please?

i tested to limit the frame rate the last days, while it did not solve the problem, it at least seems to me that i runs a little bit more stable when i limit it to 60 or 30 fpds instead of playing with 100FPS.
might be worth a shot for you to try.
To add to this, I am seeing this issue repeatedly in the last few weeks.
My PC:
Intel Core i5-4690k
AMD Radeon R9380, software version 17.5.2
8GB memory
Using dx11 mode in ffxiv
Windows 10
Now I did turn of Game Mode, and that seems to have stopped the crashes from occurring every few minutes to maybe once an hour. This really needs to be fixed.

The last stable (in FFXIV, obviously) drivers I had with my AMD card were 17.2.1, so people that can revert back may want to attempt downloading and installing them. I cannot anymore, as I'm running a 580 now and those drivers don't support this card.
FWIW, here's my specs:
Processor: Intel(R) Core(TM) i5-4670K CPU @ 3.40GHz
Memory: 16384MB RAM
GPU: MSI RX 580 8 GB
FFXIV in DX11, Win 10 Creators Update (Game Mode off)
I'm additionally getting a peculiar error with terrain, which may shed some light of its own on the issue. It's intermittent, but tends to be followed up quickly by the crash:
This, for example, is Aurum Vale. It happened about halfway through the run. About 5 minutes later, it crashed with our favorite DX error (I was tanking and didn't take the time to relog).
If I was getting errors in any other game, I'd be more concerned - but this just happens in 14. Even much more demanding games run stable for me for hours and sometimes even whole days.
