    Crops lost

I have lost entire crops destined to the cultivation of Thavnarian onions for our Free Company. People kept telling me not to worry that my crops would be fine, but they were not. I even stayed up to water all the plants shortly before going to bed just a bit before shutdown. If anything, I tend the gardens I have access to religiously making sure they are in a good state. First thing I do when I get up today? Go check the gardens.

    The Goblet - Ward 9, plot 43
    • 1st patch - 4 x krakka roots being crossbred with chamomille to give curiel roots - used Grade 3 Thanalan Soil - 4 corners of the patch
    • 3rd patch - 8 x krakka roots - used Grade 3 Shroud Soil to max yield
    The Goblet - Ward 9, plot 56
    • 1st patch - 8 Thavnarian onions

Since this datacenter move is not by any of my fault, I simply ask that you put back my crops in the same state they were before you started the migration - nothing less and nothing more.

Please help. These are not just my crops... They are for my entire Free Company.

    Thank you.

We suffered the same issue. SE's previous official replies in the past (October 2014) were this:

Crops last at least 24 hours so are good for patch maintenance.
They are looking into making changes to plant timers for longer maintenance.

Obviously point 1 was completely useless as this maintenance was longer than a day yet none of the maintenance notices said anything about "hey, don't grow any plants starting May 5th." (Onions take 10 days, so you couldn't plant starting the 5th)
And point 2....."Please look forward to it" because 2.5 years later they still haven't done a single thing.

Well SE did give people like a month notice that about the extended maintenance due to the server move. So would not say it 100% SE fault, some of the responsibility does fall on you or who ever is planting the stuff.

    Why blame SE?

I don't understand, if you guys were aware that maintenance was coming up, why risk it? We have known for a while now about maintenance and planting crops knowing this would be coming up is a form of a gamble. While I have sympathy for your situation it's only logical to plan ahead being maintenance is always unpredictable. SE has a great reputation of finishing early at times, however mayor updates, relocations, should be a common sense flag that something has a chance to go wrong. Sorry if it offends you, but come on it's only fair for you to take responsibility for your own actions.

Lost half my crops, sad, the other half all bloom, happy. The lost half crops was 3x more valuable then the other crops that bloom. Very sad.

This is 100% your fault, or the fault of whoever planted the crops, SE gave us plenty of warning for the maintenance, we know it was going to be 48 hours well before the crops were planted, and you knew the crops took 10 days. SE should not have to hold our hand and tell us not to plant crops up to 10 days prior, they did their job, you did not.

My plants all survived just fine, I stayed up and watered them 5 minutes before maintenance started, and then logged in as the servers came love to water them again, no issues. They should be able to survive 48 hours without dying unless you let them go unhealthy once or twice before maintenance.

My expectations, as someone who has been working in the software industry for over a decade, would be for SE to limit the impact on all users as much as possible. I have performed more than one datacenter migration in my years and this would not have been acceptable. This should have been caught by the QA process of the migration.

Also, as per http://na.finalfantasyxiv.com/lodest...0716040e34a5b6 : "Additionally, users will not need to take any special steps for this relocation."

If SE gives assurance I do not need to take special actions - I expect them to make sure it is correct.

No, this is not. SE has officially stated before that plants are supposed to survive a patch, which even 24 hour patches they do. These did not survive. Onions do not survive 48 hours. I also am very religious about watering right before maintenance and after because onions will be purple after most maintenance.

It's this statement from SE that they will survive a patch for the reason they do not include anything in their maintenance notes about avoiding planting 2 weeks before the patch like they do for things like Enternal Bonding (because system will allow a schedule and count it as happening if scheduled during maintenance)

They made zero announcements that this patch would cause the death of shorter life plants (which are usually the most valuable) as they stated no extra ordinary actions would need to be taken by us.

I am one of those affected i lost a entire planting of thavarian onions and i babyed them all the way up till server shut down. most crops i could careless about but it takes weeks just to farm the onion seeds or over 200k each on my server. personaly since SE did post we did not need to do anything special and my planting in the past with updates and such showed they should have been good but today i log in to all my onions dead. at a minimum that 1.6 mill gill lost. i would love my seeds back but i don't see that happening. as for blame i wont play that game. i will only say this issue should have been reviewed before hand.

I lost two thavnarian onions and one HQ jute from my indoor potted plants. Funny thing is, the outdoor gardens were fine (salvageable), but the potted plants inside were completely gone.

What I don't understand is, if the servers were supposed to be "offline/down" for relocation... why was the server's timers still active for things like the garden? c:
