Well, if language is an issue for you, the EU data center falls flat anyway. There's a large percentage of europeans who don't speak english and it's not uncommon to run into them.
And without wanting to stereotype, that percentage would likely shoot up rapidly if we got a spanish localization, because spain is pretty much at the bottom of the barrel in that regard.

True, but I'm not certain that this is the case for FFXIV. The game is years old now. Given the poor initial choice of Montreal for the NA data centre, many OCE players have been playing on the Japanese data centre for most of their time in FFXIV (hence the English-speaking community on Tonberry).

All that to say, I don't think SE can claim with any honesty that the NA data center has historically been for OCE players. If they're making an intentional effort to change that, Sacramento makes sense - but they haven't given any indication of this. They didn't publicize a 'west coast' data centre presence, they haven't made any mention of allowing free transfers from the Japanese data center over to the new NA location, etc.

I'm just hoping the move reduces my Ping by even a little bit. Running the raids and EX trials while averaging 600-800 ping makes dodging always an adventure. Having to predict when and where stuff happens and be moving as you see the telegraph start in order to avoid it is crazy on the nerves. The best day I can remember was around 300 ping and I was shocked at how easy it was to dodge that day. ^_^

I could be wrong on this but it would still give a decent idea of what your ping would be like to run a Tracert and see what the average ms / amount of hops to get to the destination is right? Like I can still get to Sacramento with a tracert which I would assume is maybe a hop or two short of the SE servers.

Pretty much. Speedtest.net can give you a 'general' idea of you're ping too.

You guys shouldn't get hung up on physical location of servers being in Sacramento if you live in the US. It's really more of the infrastructure and "pipeline" supporting it and it's a pretty diverse in terms of direct connect providers.

LOL! No. It's not really an issue for me. I'm ok with a bit of Japanese, German and French. But there is a certain group of Americans who are allergic to pushing a button on a phone to select English.
