How much of a difference does it make?

I'm on the east coast, and with the Montreal servers, it seems my ping was around 45 ms. Now it's in the 90s. I'm not complaining, since I don't notice any discernible difference but I'd genuinely like to know how much of a difference those extra 45 ms or so actually makes for most people?

None, anything under 100 is as smooth as it could be.

The difference is very negligible on your end. From Montreal myself and haven't noticed any big lag so far.

Results may vary. I'm noticing a difference in some things and it's a big improvement. Other things are same as they've always been.

Already I've noticed I'm able to get out of aoes last second where they would have hit me before; and my healing is much smoother and faster so I don't have to precast or anticipate as much.

Move pushed me from 30ms to 105ms and the difference was pretty noticeable. Significant GCD clipping, combos take much more time to light up on the hotbar, casting cancels became much more delayed, and AOEs hit me when I dodge them the same way I always have. Using a tunneling service (Pingzapper) has helped bring the responsiveness a little closer to what it was like before, but not thrilled about the extra expense.

I've played FFXIV from several different locations over the years, and in my experience the game only starts to get frustrating to play once you are getting into the 200-300ms range. I have noticed a difference in the lower ranges, but nothing that made me upset. Currently, my ping went up by 10ms with the move but my packet loss is gone despite the 'higher" (negligible) ping, so the game is playing more smoothly for me.

yeah the 0% packet loss is awesome, before even VPNs weren't completely resolving the packet loss, if at all.

I initially played (ARR) at 250ms and downed Titan EX. Raided the first tier of Bahamut fine, first tier of Alex fine. (220-230ms for Alex).
Moved to Tonberry with other Aussie players.....we all cleared Seph ex easily enough, despite our 'unplayable' ping of 100+

The only difference you will notice is you wanting/looking for a difference and accidentally fabricating it in your mind.

The higher your ping the less time to react vs boss attacks, harder to chain skills properly and less action in a certain amount of compared to someone with a lower ms.

But point and click MMO's are more "high" ping friendly and sometimes devs tweak their net code to compensate this (Overwatch and his shooter advantage for example). Anyway, you can check this videos for a general idea: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=meDtc3QqQeI https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Qwaz_aAih-A

Note: BnS is an extreme example, FF14 is not that bad but still is noticeable.

As Pence notes this might just be in my head, but thew 43ms ping makes me feel like I move "too fast". I am now over running or spinning because things are done before I expect them to be. I suspect I will be used to this in a few days, and the people on the other side of the equation will get used to that soon as well.
