Hey, I cleared titan ex at lvl 50 with 400 ping (New Zealander here) So surely 100ping can't be that bad.

Went from approx. 50ms using WTFast to 89ms. Without WTFast I'd be over 100ms. Thanks for nothing SE. Guess I won't be playing BRD anytime soon.

They're gonna make new EU servers, then allow free transfer there. You're not going to be allowed to choose. The same will happen in other data centers as well, from what it appears.
Though I'd laugh if that was only within the same data center.
That's already laughable that they're locking us to DOA servers for Stormblood.. But then again, moving the NA server to CA was already idiotic so I should've seen that coming.

I am very happy with the move. I live in South East Texas and was getting 75 ms previously but was routing through the Level 3 bottleneck. Every single day I experienced packet loss which caused my mudras to mess up. I would push a mudra once and it would cast two or three times resulting in a bunny. Sometimes my combos would mess up as well. As a black mage, my ice never regened my mana and I had to wait a good 6 seconds for it to have its effect. Now I am experiencing 68 ms and have zero packet loss and none of the problems above. I can instantly summon my chocobos and retainers as well.

I haven't noticed any difference yet.

    Edit:
Playing on Behemoth btw, I guess it hasn't updated on the forums yet

Very few people realize it will take time for all the routing tables to adjust to the new location and settle on efficient routings. I think some believe that SE can magically adjust that from the first moment they go live. The reality is that it will take time for DNS to fully propagate, and routing tables to adjust on all the various trunk nodes that people use without realizing it.

Now sitting at around 180-200 when I used to be 110 or so.

I've not yet tried an instance but already I've got a feeling of dread I'll be unable to play properly with friends in raids now.

I didn't want to believe this would screw us over, but it looks like it has.

Although a very low latency might allow a second oGCD between GCD I don't honestly believe that was intended and you were all just very fortunate to be able to do that. Ama crying about it being unplayable because now they cannot squeeze in a second oGCD in between GCD is just ridiculous.

My two cents is that Ama is, as usual, going way overboard on the hyperbole. But also, as usual, there are a couple of worthwhile nuggets to pay attention to.

The main issue with this move isn't the ping spike for some players; it's the unnecessary ping spike. Given the existing population distribution (Japanese / Oceanic players on Japanese data centres, NA and some EU on the NA data centres), it makes absolutely zero sense to relocate to the west coast, particularly without a free transfer period. It'll place unnecessary strain on the existing Oceanic community, as some will want to split to the newly-viable NA location while others won't. It'll place unnecessary strain on EU players who have been on the NA data centres up until now, because their ping just went from decent to kind of bad. And to top it all off, it will do nothing to equalize access for people in North America - because it's still on a f**king coastline.

Is it the end of the world, as Ama is suggesting? Of course not. Was it avoidable? Sure. Were there better options? Well, barring some unforeseen explanation on SE's part, yeah, there were far better options - Chicago, Denver, Dallas, etc. Pick one.

At the end of the day, this reminds me a lot of Ama's post about inventory space, which was similarly overblown and ridiculous. Inventory space is not a huge problem in FFXIV, but it is an issue - and SE, as usual, committed several unforced errors to worsen the situation (no currency tab for the Beast Tribe crap, criminal neglect of the Armoire, etc.). While the situation is certainly isn't dire, it's hard to overlook the fact that, were it not for SE's stupidity, it could be so much better. And that's precisely what's so frustrating about this server move - it could have been so much better, save for SE being SE.

    - Primal, Aether, and Chaos used to all be in the same location
    - When the split was announced, there was NO INDICATION WHATSOEVER that NA's data center would eventually be moved.
    - When Chaos was moved to EU territory, players were offered a free transfer OUT of Chaos. You still had to pay to transfer INTO it.
    - SE was cagey about the NA move, only saying that some groups would see their ping increase. People hoped it wouldn't be Cali since it would still be feasible for them to play if the servers were in a more central location
    - We only found out at the 11th hour that EU players are shafted. They either have to move to Chaos and lose all the friends they made or suffer with extremely high ping. This is NOT FAIR to them at all.

The move is done. It's financially impossible for them to pack it all up and go somewhere different now. But SE should do a much better job of communicating to players about how they will be affected by major changes like this.
