You're focusing too much on the ping. Which isn't everything. The change has removed level 3 from many people's route and that's a much more important factor. Level 3 has been the cause of countless connection issues with XIV and when the data center was in Montreal, many people had to suffer through it. If the change has removed level 3 from yours then you're going to see a huge improvement in stability and reliability, long term.

If only ping and packet loss were the same... Wait, they're not. The new location is HUGE for this. Everyone is seeing an improvement in packet loss, regardless of where they are. Higher ping sucks, but try playing. Packet loss is a huge cause of many people's issues.

I was having little to no packet loss through vpn previously, so this is nothing but a net loss for me. Tripled my ping without VPN, doubled with

Switch ISPs or move. Internet infrastructure out in the boonies is going to suck, period. Wouldn't have mattered much if they'd put the DC in Chicago if your ISP has garbage infrastructure.

And on that note, why are you complaining about sub-100ms ping when there are people with legitimate grievances complaining about 200+?

Just because my issue is smaller than others doesn't make it any less of a downgrade for me. I can still -barely- double weave if I'm slamming my buttons as fast as possible, but I absolutely cannot raiton anymore as it clips horribly into my GCD. Packet loss reduction means little to me if I still need to use a VPN to get a decent connection. I was hoping to drop it because I wouldn't be routed through level3 anymore, no such luck.

I have friends that it's even worse for (SMN buddy's ping quadrupled and he struggles to properly do his opener now. He does not have the expendable income to afford a VPN for one game) so I speak for them too.

Playing from NYC and I've got a ping of 30 ms

How is that even possible? You were probably getting 30 when they were still in Montreal, but you should be around 85-90 now. The lowest I've seen anyone from NYC have so far is 85, and that's on fios. I'm in Buffalo and I'm getting 130 because it routes me to NYC then to Seattle then goes to Sacramento rather than taking a straight path. Hopefully that'll be fixed sooner rather than later.

Your ping to the speedtest servers is not the same as the ping to FFXIV.

The same amount of people will gripe if they moved it smack dab in the middle of NA. There is always someone who be put out and will cry foul, there's always going to be someone who wont get the best of the best of the best and cry foul, and there's always going to be those who cry foul even if nothing really changed for them.

I'm not asking for perfect ping, I'm asking for a decent experience for everyone. Moving the servers from one side of NA to the other only flips the disparity. A central location would undoubtedly result in reduced performance for East Coast also, but it's better overall for the whole playerbase as it provides a more equivalent experience for those on the extreme sides of the continent.

It is a bit ridiculous seeing folks whine and complain about how their 100ms ping is so terrible and unplayable. PLEASE! I played this game on 200-250+ ping and never had issues and some people have higher ping than that and still manage! If folks with 300 ping can make it out of aoes, so can folks at 100ms pings.

The world used to also watch 480p movies on VHS for years, try doing it now that you've seen 1080p + 4K. It looks like trash.

Not necessarily. The network connectivity to the datacenter matters MUCH more than the physical location.

How do you manage to be routed that way? Tools, contacting ISP? I'm also in Chicago, but get routed to the New York ntt.net, then back over to Seattle, and then down to San Jose.

Similar issue here. It's something that should hopefully be resolved soon, but if not the only other option is a VPN. :/ Pingzapper has a 7-day free trial and works decently for me so far, and is only $2.50/month if you buy a whole year... Hoping routing will be fixed by the end of the trial anyway. WTFast has a trial too, but it seems to be $10/month now after that. >_>
