Lol 100ms is unplayable what? I've been running with 160-180 from EU just fine and being able to clear and farm everything. Now I saw my ping jumped to 220 and it's scary but I can't jump the gun before I see how it feels in game. I'm on a NA server due to friends and I made lots of them there. I don't feel comfortable even thinking about moving. I'm upset, yes. But I stayed on a NA server cause the old ping was perfectly fine and no one expected such drastic change with the servers moving. I don't get you people tossing a fit over getting 100 and bellow even.

Guys, let's be real here. Those of us on the East Coast were spoiled. It's going to take time for us to adjust to having a higher latency... but unless you now have over a 150-ish ms ping, you really shouldn't have any issues. (Some people were actively raiding with higher than that and they were fine, but reaction times will vary.) We just need to be less greedy with our timing. Every AoE is avoidable, but we just have less leeway -- less time to be a little extra greedy. We just need some time to adjust.

I *do* feel bad for the EU players who are now experiencing unplayable ping, though. I'm in the camp that thinks they should be offered a free transfer. Still, I can understand and appreciate the frustration of having to choose between leaving their friends behind and playing with an acceptable ping. Back in 1.x days, I played on a server that was eventually designated as a JP server (Aegis). Seeing as most of the people in my LS were ex-FFXI players, we had known each other for years and were very close. Many of us were international players, so the decision was made to stay on the JP datacenter when ARR went live. I knew my latency issues... I knew how I struggled to beat Ifrit Ex simply because of lag... but I still wanted to play with them. So, I leveled two characters during the open beta -- one on the NA datacenter and one on the JP datacenter. It became readily apparent to me that playing on the JP datacenter would be a huge sacrifice for me... I wouldn't be able to reliably dodge. I made the hard decision to leave the server and to go to an NA datacenter. Many of my friends were upset with me, and the leadership of the previous LS even said to me... "Don't come crawling back when you can't get anything done." I left all of my friends behind, but I had no choice... If I didn't leave, FFXIV would become nothing more than a glorified chat program for me. So, the situation is difficult enough for EU players. Please don't make it harder on them by telling them they deserve this situation because they didn't move earlier or should just be 'okay' with how things have played out. There's always going to be people who are placed at a disadvantage when a huge datacenter relocation is made, but let's try to be a little more understanding of their situation?

Yeah, slidecasting is canceling my casts now. Any ideas on how to mitigate this?

Get used to the new ping and try again? I had no issues at 90+, or double weaving or anything people say is impossible at ping over 50 lol

Just delay your slidecast a little longer. You'll soon get used to the new timing of it. I was doing it just fine at 90 ping, and could even do it at 175 ping back in the day.
Edit: I just tested, and with 45 ping I can now stutter step when casting at about the 60% mark on the cast bar. With 90 ping it was more like around 75% of it. Just to give you an idea.

And I had zero issues double weaving ogcd abilities at an average 90 ping before the data centre move. It was impossible to do more than one without clipping at 175 ping, but 90 certainly not impossible.

    Thanks, will try that.

So did a test now that servers are live and I have gone from 107ms to 24ms avg. I am so happy, sadly though there will be others who will get the opposite and get huge increases.

The main issue people have here is that they decided to literally swing the pendulum in the other direction, as opposed to making a reasonable decision to centralize the server location to allow for a variety of routing options for users, and less ping issues from sheer distance.

If you complain at the EU playerbase for opting to stay with the NA clusters instead of transferring over when it opened in Frankfurt, you are conveniently forgetting that the distance these datacenters moved are very nearly the distance between Montreal and Frankfurt in the first place. Why would they have reason to believe the servers would suddenly move 4000 kilometers?

And even disregarding the decision for EU players to remain on NA datacenters...they moved it from one coast to the next. Instead of trying to compromise to create a reasonable connection for everyone, suddenly west coast and SEA players are enjoying privileges that the east coasters had stripped.

Could somone figure out an IP in a relevant datacenter in the middle everyone is coveting about, just so people could test if they'd get any difference at all?

If you say 'pls' because it's shorter than 'please', I say 'no' because it's shorter than 'yes'.

Test IP for WoW US Central is 24.105.62.129.

For reference, I got 30ms to Aether-Montreal, 105ms to Aether-Sacramento, and 42ms to WoW US Central.
