I don't blame them at all for upgrading the servers. We're going to be seeing the benefits very soon with Stormblood. More capacity and power is not a bad thing at all.

I do not agree, however, with the radio silence about where the new servers will be until we find out for ourselves. They could have avoided a lot of panic and ill-will by disclosing the state or general area in the initial announcement.

It's no secret the servers needed to be upgraded, that is a fact, and I fully agree with the decision to finally do so. However, this entire move has been shady because of, yes, radio silence from the get-go. Yoshi-P's initial post clearly shown they had already decided on a location but to this day we have not had official confirmation on the location.

Pardon the conspiracy theory, but it's almost as if they knew it would be received in a negative way if it was revealed to be California.

You might be an hour behind on the fact that it's probably not Cali and if that's true, everyone has been testing pings to the wrong location. The routing tables are going to take a bit now that the lobby url is actually replying to pings now.

EU never got official confirmation that the servers were put into Frankfurt specifically, all that we knew was the server data was hopping across the pond to European soil and being hosted there instead.

I think them not disclosing it has to do with some legal mumbo jumbo, but I wouldn't know, really.

Well seeing as how I live in a part of California that literally has the worst internet speeds in ALL of California I am happy about where it is being moved. Went from 107ms to 67ms with 5 less hops. All of this is good because ever since it rained in Cali about a month in a half ago, the game has been unplayable do to constant packetloss and Comcast does not give a crap. So at least now if I still get packetloss and spike should not last as long.

Yes the weather effects it also, us is a 3rd world county when it comes to internet. The reason for this is because of the monopolies here and because of that, lack of competition get to overcharge for the low quality service people in the USA do get. This is why google fiber became a thing, to stir the pot to get these companies to work.

Something I just noticed is my tracert is giving me a weird pathing because the IPs were in Cali earlier today and is now showing up in Michigan. Before anyone decides they need to unsub, give the internet a little bit of time to figure out what path it needs to be taking.

I ran simultaneous pings from computers on the East Coast (Philadelphia) and West Coast (Seattle) to 204.2.229.9. Seattle averaged 35ms, Philadelphia averaged 80ms. If your ping is huge, or becomes huge, I suspect there may be something else going on.
