That's a corporate address, not a datacenter. The corporate entity that the IP block is registered to is there, but the IPs can be used anywhere.Yeah, same here. It's definitely Colorado. ARIN has that IP listed as a town in Colorado, not California.

The problem is, you are using web services such as "whois" which won't give you accurate results. I saw Dallas, Denver, Kansas etc. while using those. What you wanna do is using CMD to /tracert neolobby02.ffxiv.com and neolobby04.ffxiv.com which gives you the new lobby IP, another IP which you can ping and also your new latency. The exact location of the new data center don't mean anything, it's the IP you want in order to check your latency.
One way to check if the result of a service might be right is to ping a testserver in that location and compare it with your traceroute results. And as my lobby ping is the same as the testserver sacramento ping, it's enough for me to take the revealed location as confirmation. At least it's clearly somewhere in that area.
Ragingwire Sacramento CA2 Data Center.
NTT/Ragingwire owns the IP addresses and they can use them anywhere in their data center network, you can't go by WHOIS information. If the hop holds true it's the CA2 Data Center. However it's not the game server(s) themselves but it's likely the IPs are within the same subnet family.
Directed at thread title: How does CA make sense. Why would they not choose a central area that is better for everyone in the NA Datacenters? How does this make ANY more sense than Canada Square Enix. EXPLAIN please.
Also hopefully the title to the thread is wrong because that would be just as stupid as a move as Canada was.
If it truely is in CA Im pretty sure a majority of my FC will be moving to an EU server. Just need to figure out which one..

Better network connections? Geographic location is very much of secondary importance compared to how the datacenter is connected to the rest of the world.Directed at thread title: How does CA make sense. WEST COAST BEST COAST... lol :P
I had no change from Japan to Montreal, so this will finally feel like a "US" server to me (probably, and yes I know the servers are labeled as "NA" servers lol). Unfortunately distance isn't the best sign of how the connection will be, due to the fact these things follow physical lines (with their own attributes, not all created equal) and not as the crow flies internet. Although that's a good thing too though, some people who feel the Canadian server is farther away may still have a decent (or even improved) connection
(I'm also going to take the CA location with a hunk of salt until servers are live and we can definitely confirm location).

You know if you actually checked the link I posted out, Ragingwire CA2 has direct connects to just about all of the largest ISPs in the US like Cox, Centurylink, Comcast, Verizon, ATT which should be an improvement for most in the US compared to Montreal.
That's something I hope for even as my latency will go up. But I had pretty bad lags recently, so I hope the new location will at least fix that and compensate the higher ping somehow. Maybe its not that bad.
There is not compared bns to xiv, but low ping vs high ping, and the difference exists. The same difference that made me never pass titan ex when datacenter was in the other side of the world, and passed at first try when it came in front of my house. 200ms is an eternity when playing anything require coordination and reflexes to what happens in the screen in front of your face.
Ah, was hoping it was going to be central, but I had a sinking feeling it was going to end up on the west coast.
